Valley.
Others here work for NMR, American Mobile, Staffpros, Supplamental.
they get less than me hourly, they get $35-38, but they make more than me on OT, since all my pay is incentives that don't factor into my OT.
I make less in OT then in regular pay.
valley is best for 40 hours.
If you like working alot of OT, then the other guys are better.
but my take home is $5000 plus a month, with out doing OT, so i'm happy.
not bad for a LVN, can't wait till i take the RN boards!

I just got hired on here in CA at one of the state prisons as a full time LVN. I've been working for them for less than a month. The pay is okay but it's excepted to go up.

They hired on a bunch of us since they are phasing out the MTA's.

The MTA's have been given the choice of converting to CO's or working for the state as LVn's. A majoroty of them are converting.

RIght now is a transiting period so no one knows how things are going to turn out.

For the most part the Lvn ar picking up the slack and will fillin as MTA's.

My question is pay has to go or people wont stick around, right?

Their are a few registery LVN at the instutiuon but they the state is trying to get rid of them.

The registery LVN make more then me and will continue to do so till manning improves.

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

I intend to pursue my Rn in the near future.

Hopefully the state will pay for it.

at my prison the MTA's have all been gone for a month.
everybody in medical got nice raises, but the LVN's.

The state LVN's we hired are ****** at the pay difference between what we agency LVN's make and them.
They are all thinking about becoming MTA's at the DMH, since they will still keep them, only the prison is getting rid of the MTA.

At any rate, all of us agency LVN's think we have about 6-12 months left before they are able to get rid of us, so we will milk it.

Do you mind telling us exactly what the LVN and RN pay rate is now since you work in the state system? I am interested in what regular RNs make per month not what contracted employees make. Thanks for your help on this!

I have yet to get my first offical check.

I just started but Ive asked around and the average is about $19/hr.

The Rn are cleaning up about 6-8000 per month. Starting but thats it no increase in pay unlees you work overtime or get promoted to SRNII or III.


SRN II and SRN III are the big bucks about 100,000 per year.

The base pay of the MTA is alot less than the 100,000 proposed by the receiver for the RN's.

so if a MTA who has a base pay much less than the future RN rate can make 130,000 a year, then next years RN should be able to at least match the lower paid MTA for the year.

course i don't see too many RN's here wanting to do overtime, all the MTA's/LVN's want OT, they get ****** when they get passed over.

MTA are forced to work OT against their will. They are being replaced with state lvn's that are making $3,300 a month. Not all MTA like overtime. It affects the new MTA greatly...if an MTA calls in sick, another MTA (newest) has to stay at work.

Alot of the Mta's here relied on that overtime and now are faced with what to do next. They keep their benefits and time served if them become officers. some thing like 4-6 weeks of training vs 6 months at the academy.

to some its a no brainer.

we are aleardy seeing problems devlope. For one thing they are habing the MTA stnad custody watch in the clinic as nonmedical. The LVN do not haave keys to let the inmates in and out of the clinic.

this was always the responsiblity of the MTA and c/o's.

The only other person who has keys is the RN which isn't their on the weekends. The RN is charge of running her own line and never helps out in the front ( passinf meds, insuln) when they are around you never see them. The doctors are more approceable. yet few are into teaching junior staff.


If you are ans LVN and their is no officer with you

your either locked in or locked out.

You can already see the problems that could arise in case of an emergency.

We'll see how it turns out. it's a custody issue they dont want medical opening the door to let inmates in and out of the clinic.

there has already been an issue with a person from medical taking off with keys.

If a person loses the keys it's 10,000 dlr fine.

As a former Corrections MTA all I can say to the MTA's left in the prisons is GET OUT FAST!! If you are close enough to the few Dept. of Mental Health (CMF and SVPP) units that use MTA's ...get your paperwork in ASAP. If you are not near DMH, then becoming a CO is generally the best bet (if you have some time in). Any LVN that would work in a prison setting for $3,000/ month is nuts.

In Jan 2007 RN's starting were making $7650 a month. Regardless of what the web site says.
In a nutshell some facilities are extremely difficult to work for. Back Stabbing sums it up but mentally taxing is more like it. Correctional work is great (for me) been doing it 4 years love it! Its Who you work with as proffesionals that is the issue not who you care for that cause problems. Each facility has its ups & downs.
