Well I've been in my travel corrections assignment for 3 weeks or so. Overall it's been a good experience. Like anything, it has good and bad. Good is the people I work with. Bad is the seemingly constant struggle between custody and medical. Also, there seems to be no leadership. Good is that I feel safer than I would in a hospital. Bad is the spray they use for cell extractions...very very bad.

Good is that the charting is more than 2/3rds less than I have ever done...very very good.
We have a system where we have like 24 beds. 8 are acute psych; the next few can be either med or psych, and the remaining 7 are med. There are 3 nurses (sometimes 4) and one of the nurses does meds for all pts. The others chart and care for the pts. It can get hairy, but not so bad when you don't have to pass meds. Which begs the question...is the correctional facility subject to the staffing ratio laws in CA?
Also, this is of course my first travel assignment, so overall I'm loving this experience. I'm in a beautiful area, and the money is way cool.
