I've worked in corrections for the past 6 1/2 yrs (4yrs MedSurg Ortho prior to this). I am very interested in travel nursing. Is anyone working in corrections as a travel nurse? Any info such as places, travel agencies, hospitals with correctional floors would be greatly appreciated! I have worked in a max security prison with death row and have experience in emergencies (minor and major), infection control and infectious diseases (much training in HIV/AIDS), psych (over 1 yr working psych only), infirmary, and management experience. No recent hospital experience though.

I think Supplemental (Travel Nursing) staffs correctional facilities. Check them out.

Thanks for the info - I have actually received a packet from them, but didn't realize that they staffed correctional facilities.

INS offers good travel positions within Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix, AZ. The jail has has been showcased on tv's 'Cops' series. They offer 13-26 week assignments. That is Independent Nursing Services, Wendi or Nicole. Also, HRN has traveler position for DOC in California. Check it out.

I work for NYS Dept of Corrections and we have 4 travel nurses at our facility in Elmira NY and 1 travel nurse at the other correctional facility across town. They are all employed by Nursefinders.

Yes, Supplemental places in correctional and per diem traveling nurses based out of colorado springs, CO

Supplemental Health Care is the prime contractor for agency nurses with UTMB-CMC (Texas). I'm with them and they have done alright by me. I use the Houston office. Nursefinders has some as well. There are several agencies that staff for CMC.
