Questions
1. Where is it that you work and how long have you been working there?
State of Wyoming Boys' School
2. What exactly do you do?
LPN in nursing dept.
3. What is the salary range?
$2376-2874 agency hiring range
4. Where did you go to high school?
Hippy school in N. Ca. "Froebel School"
5. Where did you go to College?
Santa Rosa Junior College, Ca; Ukiah Adult School of Nursing, Ca.
6. How long did it take to get through college?
Collectively...1978-1993 with many breaks for life, marriage, kid.
7. Have you enjoyed working there? if not why? if so is there anything that makes it so great?
Like it better than previous nursing jobs, love the kids (juvenile faciltiy), frustrated at very low pay and staff that poo-poo the nurses here.
8. How are the people that you work with and treat?
For the most part great. The overall lack of education leads to a lack of respect towards the nurses. We feel we are merely tolerated.
9. Why did you want to be a nurse?
I didn't! Came from a medical/nursing family and fought it for years. Went into law enforcement first. Sought out nursing as a strong career that would support me. Love it now.
10. When did you realize you wanted to be a nurse?
I was early 30's.....
11. How is working there different than working in lets say a hospital?
I have avoided hospital nursing and will continue; not for me. I have a strong LTC background, home health, case management. I have more flexibilty, less physical demands, time to myself at work, less patient contact (good or bad), only myself to depend on, as we work alone.
12. Have you had any other jobs or worked any where else? if so what were they?
How much space do I get? LOL. Police officer, Case Manager Senior Services, Office Nurse for GP and Surgeon,Grant Writer, Business owner/operator, LPN.
13. What are the most common injuries you have seen?
Just in this job? That would be alot of sprains and strains of young joints.
14. When do you plan on retiring?
Is tomorrow too soon? Realistically, in 20 years.
15. What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you on the job?
Overall, learning so much about adolescent behavioral issues here. Our sexual offender dorm is fascinating. Nothing exciting like in an E.R.
