? about corrections

Hi!

I'm a new grad who will be starting in corrections in the next few weeks. I will have three days of orientation, but would like a head start.

What are some of the common meds?
What are the most common ailments/disorders that I will see?
Should I focus on reviewing assessment stuff, or pysch or both?
Will I see any med/surg?

I will be at a male prison.

Thanks for all the help!

Re: ? about corrections

I'm a med nurse at a county jail, and the most common meds that I pass are psych meds:
remeron
sinequan
risperdal
trilafon
trazodone
prolixin
cogentin
celexa
paxil
zoloft
thorazine
valium
klonopin
Also a lot of depakene and neurontin
(And, believe it or not, that's for general pop, not a psych unit!)

And antibiotics and motrin and tylenol, along with more "normal" meds like hctz, atenolol, lopressor, etc

I'd say that what you need to focus on probably depends on where you are working at the jail. For instance, infirmary or intake would require more assessment skills than my med pass.
