I hope nobody finds this question upsetting, but here goes...somebody very close to me is in prison and I visit him often...I am supposed to start orienting for a per diem position in a different prison 3 hours away... I have not mentioned this to the employer. Should I? Would this affect their decision to hire me?

Re: ??

It shouldn't have any direct bearing. Did the question come up during the hiring process? You might be candid that you have a close friend in a prison not associated with the one where you plan to be employed.

I was asked this question upon hiring and was totally honest about two with whom I had a close relationship. Was a non-issue.....

Re: ??

Thanks for your reply. Actually I have not been asked, but was worried that if they somehow found out it might affect my chances of keeping the job.

Re: ??

Like I said, I highly doubt this will have any bearing on your job. If you feel like you should divulge it, then that might be something that would completely ease your mind.

Now, if you knew someone in the same prison where you will be employed that would be a definite reason to divulge the information; w/o hesitation.

Good luck and hope you enjoy correctional nursing.
