Question Shortage of Vacuum Bottles????

We use evac bottles or vacuum bottles on a daily basis for our thora/para patients. We are now OUT of them as a hospital. We are being told that there is a medical glass shortage and that this is affecting everyone. We have some paracentesis patients that are taking 2 hours to drain 6 L. This would normally take us 30-45 minutes. We are having to use the drainage bags instead of the bottles.

Is anyone else having problems getting bottles?
Does anyone have any alternative ideas???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cathy

Re: Shortage of Vacuum Bottles????

Yes, we have had the same problem. All we are getting now is 500 ml bottles. UCKKK!
I am using an Ortho suction I borrowed from our OR. it has a central vacume stand that connects to a wall suction regulator and four 3,000 ml vacume cannisters. You connect the patient to one cannister and after it fills the fluid overflows into the next cannister. It works amazing well and is pretty low cost.
