Re: Working in the U.S.

Hi Suzanne4 and everyone here,

I am new here and just want to get some suggestions from u. Thanks!

I am a new RN and just graduated in an english college in quebec. I want to work in NY in 1 or 2 yrs and maybe move to CA or FL after 5 yrs. I was a resident in Canada and now I am a canadian. My question is:
Should I get my initial license in MN or VT (maybe faster to sit in the nclex exam) first and endorse it to NY after, OR I just apply in NY directly for nclex exam and get the license in NY? Thanks.

Any advices or suggestion are appreciated.

Re: Working in the U.S.

Can I ask a really stupid question?

I'm a RN in Edmonton, Alberta, thinking about writing the NCLEX to possibly work in the U.S. one day.

I printed out an application form to apply for a Minnesota license so I can get approval to write the exam and I'm already stuck. It asks for everything to be signed and sworn before a notary public. Who can act as a notary public? Do you know how I might be able to find one? I'm not sure this is a term we use regularly in Canada.

Thanks!

You should be able to have your documentation notarized at a registry or the courthouse. They will charge you a fee... just be aware. They take debit and credit cards.

Re: Working in the U.S.

Hello everyone!

My name is Kim. I'm a pretty recent graduate and I'm currently an RN, working in psych in Vancouver, BC.

I'm interested in relocating again to Raleigh, NC (to be with my boyfriend) and I'm pretty lost! I'm not even sure I know what a TN visa is!

I'd like to know how long the process might be until I can move down there as I'd like to get things movin ASAP. My understanding so far is that I have to apply to NC to be eligible to write the NCLEX?

My fear is that as an RN working in psych, a lot of my skills/knowledge has faded from my memory and I'm wondering how big of a factor this is going to be when writing the nclex and also looking for a non-psych related job in Raleigh.

I'm also wondering if there is an option to get paid education/on the job training down there...so I can perhaps refresh myself or gain knowledge in something like Women's Health/L&D while still getting some sort of income to pay off the student loans I have!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please check out the Primer at the top of the International Forum. It contains a basic of what you will need to do.

There are also threads that contain the specifics about the NAFTA TN Visa. In order to qualify for one, you must have passed the NCLEX-RN exam, and have a Visa Screen Certificate in hand, as well as a job offer.

Best of luck to you.

On average takes 4 months as long as they get all your documents in a timely manner, will also need to arrange your state to send NCLEX results to them and pay any fees as required
