Wanting to become an RPN

Hey Guys, Well yesterday was my first time posting on this forum and had replies so quickly and it was very useful information, so just wanted to say thanks! Now that I think I have made my decision i think I’m going to go to school first for an RPN then eventually get a job and go back to school once im finished my RPN. The trouble im having it looking at the course at Algonquin they have a lot of classes for RN or people that have already went to school and are going back to further them self’s .

The only class I can find at Algonquin for an RPN is Registered Practical Nurse - Operating Room which says that it for people that have been working in the industry for about a year. So what I’m getting at is where can I find information on class to take in Ottawa to become an RPN?

I have done research on my own but am not the best and finding what i need on the internet.

Thanks

Re: Wanting to become an RPN

Here's a link to the Ontario College of Nurses which lists all approved schools in Ontario that offer RPN programs.

http://www.cno.org/reg/nonmemb/progs_rpn.htm

I'm not too familiar with the Ottawa area, but from looking at the list it doesn't seem that there's much offered in the area.

Good luck.

I just wanted to add to my above post.

I realize now that you're looking for more info about the program at Algonquin. Here's the link I found to their RPN program

http://extraweb.algonquincollege.com...id=1704X01FWO&

I think you couldn't find it because you were searching for individual courses instead of programs.

I apologize in advance if this sounds catty but you will not survive college if you can't spell. It should be "themselves". Fiona could have a good point with her suggestion you get your grade 12.

My bad.I did not realize that you are only 20. If you have been out of school for 5 years you must have only completed grade 9 or so. Definitely not enough education. I only was 3 credits short of my diploma. You need to be able to function at a college/university level and there are lots of academic papers to complete.

Yes I did feel silly after I saw your age. The years I spent maturing were between 18 and 38 y.o.Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for me next time I don't read a post carefully enough.

Re: Wanting to become an RPN

What you could do is either phone or go directly to Algonquin college and see if there is a program you could do to prepare yourself for entry into the RPN program. Some college offer a one year general arts and science program for entry into nursing or other college programs. You will have to check into the requirements for this. I must agree with the other posters that you will need your high school or something equivalent as nursing school does require you to write academic papers. Good luck, you can do it, lots of others who I went to school with upgraded themselves and they all did just great in the RPN program.

Re: Wanting to become an RPN

Yes you guys are right, and I have done some more research regarding RPN and my schooling. I have decided to go back to school and finish the rest of my courses. I took a look at my transcripts and I haven’t been out of school for five years (haha felts like I was gone for so long, but it has only been about 2 and half years hahah) . I do appreciate the constructive criticism its just I’m writing this while I’m at work trying to do other things at the same time and doing research on getting my career on the right track. Once again though i do thanks for all you’re replies.

Good for you. You sound like you are ready to take the next steps forward. Have faith in yourself and you will be Nurse Connie before you know it. We know you can do it. Best of luck and keep us posted.
