Re: UBC Nursing Interview....Help!!!

Hello all. Just got back from Vancouver today. Here's the scoop.

Questions:
"why nursing"
"strengths/weaknesses"
"what are qualities of a nurse"
"name a time you were confronted with a problem, and how did you deal with it"
"experience working with people"
"give examples where you have been in leadership roles"

Essay Questions
pick from one of the three
1) what is the biggest challenge of the bc medical system at this time.
2) describe what you believe the primary roles of a nurse are as part of an integrated health care team.
3) what do you thing the most important bodies of knowledge are in the study of nursing.

At the end you have an opportunity to talk about yourself, so be prepared for that.

The interviewer were very friendly, and did their best to make me feel at ease. Just be yourself.

Hope this helps.

I will find out in a couple of weeks the outcome.

Darrell

Smile Re: UBC Nursing Interview....Help!!!

This post is old news but I just wanted to conclude it by saying that I got invited for an interview after all. I went for my interview on a Wednesday and today I got an email advising me that I have been accepted and will start school in Jan 07. Thank you to all those who provided information about the UBC SON application process.

Congratulations!

I too was offered admission for jan 2007! very exciting!
Do you know of anyone who currentl enrolled or who has completed the program? Any feedback?

I emailed the school and found out that 60 students will be beginning in Jan. I can't wait! Was this your first time applying as well?

Once again, congratulations!!!

Re: UBC Nursing Interview....Help!!!

Congratulations to you too. It seems the competition was very high, so getting accepted is really something. This was my first time applying and I'm mighty glad I got in on the first try. I don't know if I would have re-applied if I had not been accepted. An experienced RN told me that, in the workplace, UBC nursing grads are not as highly regarded as BCIT nurses, so I was actually thinking of trying BCIT if UBC rejected me. Now that UBC has accepted me, I couldn't be happier because I'd rather do 2 years than 4 and UBC is more internationally recognized than BCIT. Anyway, UBC was my first choice.

Sorry, I don't know anyone who has gone through the UBC program. I guess the program is so intense that once people start it, they don't get time for anything else (surfing and posting on the web included).

See you in class.

Re: UBC Nursing Interview....Help!!!

wow, is this forum from two years ago? this is in the year of 2008 and i think ubc has changed the format of interviewing nurses who want to enter the two-year program and i heard it's much more intense...anyone with 2007 experience of the interview? does it resemble 8 sessions of 8-minute interviews?

I also was wondering if anyone has any experience of the new type of interview session and how to prepare for it.
