Re: Phil RN's as LPN

The US is under a retrogression so they are looking at five years for a chance at a visa. For anyone that is dumb enough to think that they will be in the US in just a year, I do have some swamp land that is for sale.

And to use Canada as a stepping stone is not what should be done either.

It is my personal opinion, and any that go to Canada with the purpose of getting to the US needs to rethink what they are doing.

Working as an LPN there is not the same as having experience as an RN and will not count as such. And since we are expecting immigration to require that experience, they will really be up a creek without a paddle.

Do these "nurses" understand that some LPNs make more on an hourly rate than some US RNs? Just read some of the posts around this place...

I agree.

In my opinion, since these NCLEX passers are trained as RN's, they should practice as RN's. If they want to practice as LPN's in Canada or anywhere else, they should follow the process, write the exam and obtain the license for LPN's like the others who studied and trained to become an LPN.

Re: Phil RN's as LPN

I see your point but you know what? This was there last day at our school and discussed there situation. They are RN's in the PHIL. Yes that's a fact. But there education is not enough to be as a RN in Canada. Sure there great nurses, but they don't the education to be a RN in Canada. RN in Canada is more complex and its ever changing up here. anyways back to these recruitments. they never wrote the NClEX exam. They just had to take some sort of testing and screening but NOT a NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN .They said they been recruited by Captial Health by agency to work and fill the void in the region and not to be used to use Canada as a stepping stone to the states. Some have been recruited to Saskatchewan as well. This is why they got them here so they could fill the shortages that's is what they said if you don't believe me come here to my school and talk to them for yourself sorry for sounding mean but this is the fact

Re: Phil RN's as LPN

I am a Filipino RN and I am following the process of registering to write the boards here. If they want to be an RN here, they can also accept the fact that it it more complex here. They can be assessed the way I was and take courses etc in order to be recognized and eventually work as an RN.

I do not have to go there, as my friend's situation is enough proof. We have this email group where one can post to anyone publicly to anybody in the batch from the university. She was asked by someone how she got here in Alberta. You know what she said? After talking about being recruited by MERCAN AGENCY, etc etc... She said at the end: "Okay ito (in English it means: It's fine here) WHILE WE ARE WAITING FOR OUR US APPLICATION TO BE APPROVED"

So again ask those recruited by MERCAN AGENCY, NCLEX PASSERS here in ALBERTA. That pool. Sorry for sounding mean too but my information? It is confined to those Filipino RN's, NCLEX passers recruited by MERCAN agency (I don't know about those from other agencies and those in other provinces) who recently came and easily can become an LPN without writing the board exam. THAT GROUP basically because that's where my friend belongs at that's what she says.

Again, of course those who did not take the NCLEX will not be under the reciprocity, THEREFORE they will have to go under the process of writing the board exam, etc etc...

If you still don't believe me I will give you the contact number of my friend, but I AM SURE she will not admit that to you nor to anyone. Who would anyway? Good luck with that!

Re: Phil RN's as LPN

Besides for me, whether they stay or not is not the major issue here. It is their life, it is up to them.

It is the fact that Captial Health hires and permits foreign nurses to practice as LPN's without the LPN license "to work and fill the void in the region". Some may agree, but I stand with my position. If they want to practice as LPN's in Canada or anywhere else, they should follow the process, write the exam and obtain the license for LPN's like the others who studied and trained to become an LPN.

Re: Phil RN's as LPN

I really don't believe you! and it doesn't make sense at all. Guess what i'm Filipino too.If they passed their NCLEX why would they even come here? They should have wrote the CRNE then which they don't qualify. Name the person you talked to. I just talked to them the last few days. Are you sure you have spoken to the people who just went to my school? are you sure they went to alberta? because you are not making any sense at all. msg me your contact. You are saying its complex there? maybe it is but coming here is more complex. Nursing here isnt about your skills only, its more than that. If you say its complex there then let see how'd they do if they wrote the CRNE. Sorry but true. My mom works at royal alex as a RN with a MSN and hearing from capital health they are only here to fill the voids not to go to the states

I really do not have to make you believe me. I also guess you did not understand. I am already here in Alberta completing the requirements CARNA subjected me to. I said it is more complex here because I have another batchmate with same credentials as mine who applied to Saskatchewan just last November and guess what? He is already working as a grad nurse... no assessments, no courses, etc etc. Despite that, I am here, have accepted the fact that I have to follow the complex process of CARNA.

So back to these nurses who passed the NCLEX who were recruited by the Mercan agency who arrived YESTERDAY (so I suppose you HAVE NOT MET them yet) Again, it comes down to a pool, NOT ALL OF THEM! Specifically my friend, who has been talking about going to the US after her contract here and she said that the nurses from her batch feel the same way. So yes as soon I learn from her that she is there at your college already? Maybe on Monday? I will inform you, no problem. But, goodluck if you will get a straight answer.

Doesn't make sense right? NCLEX passers working here in Canada as LPN and not apply as RN and take the boards? Well, there's the answer. Being able to work as an LPN means they will not take the board exam. Against applying and take the CRNE? Well... let's see, there's the SEC at Calgary, waiting for the results, knowing you have to take courses, maybe even some clinicals, becoming a grad nurse first, then eventually write the CRNE. So okay, applying as RN in Alberta having to go through all these against being an LPN without having to write the LPN board exam? Hmmm...

Re: Phil RN's as LPN

if i may, fiona, i take offense in your referring to filipino RNs in quotation marks. they are true nurses driven by the same goal, dedication, and love for their profession as you are or any nurse of any background. they are there with the full intention of working and giving their best and learning to better themselves and be at par with canadian nurses (if you wish) in serving your community. again, they are qualified nurses undergoing orientation and adjustment to your culture, your system and everything that's totally different but not necessarilly new to them. in a short time they can prove their worth and work with you as a team member.
to purple hippo, i don't want to say this but you have a superb crab mentality i would understand where you're coming from if you weren't filipino.
the filipino RNs undergoing orientation at norquest are there as lpns as agreed upon by capital health and canadian immigration. they are there to fill in staffing shortages in your hospitals and health centers and to care for your elderly population in nursing homes that are severely understaffed.
their plans of leaving canada and going to the US is exactly that, just a plan. anything can happen and change between now and the future. for certain, a hostile environment will not at all derail their plans.
