I notice a couple of people mentioned knowing about ethics of nursing. I was just curious if questions may pertain more to actual ethic questions or you are given a nursing scenario and the answer would be the most ethical answer? I guess I am trying ot say is it more terminology or whatever related questions oor questions related to ethics and the application nursing? If this makes any sense and anyone could guide me, that would be greatyly appreciated

Our instructor gave us advica how to prepare for CRNE, we have to have following books:
1. "Medical - Surgical Nursing in Canada" (Study Guide)
2. "Fundamentals of Nursing" (must be Canadian, for example - Potter & Perry)
3. "Drug Guide" (no late than 2004)
4. "Code of Ethics for RN"
5. Last!!! "Prep Guide for CRNE"

I studied for the CRNE using the competances noted in the CRNE Guide. The competances that I needed to work on is the areas I concentrated on. I found the exam like a mental workout. Time went to fast. But overall, I guess its what you have retained and what you know from Nursing School.

You're right, Suzanne. Any already-registered-somewhere-else RN who wishes to work as an RN in Canada will have to work first as a GN until they've taken and passed the CRNE. If one fails they can no longer perform work that would be the purview of an RN or GN until they have passed the CRNE. And it's really too bad that the Canadian Nurses Association can't get its act together and get the results out to people in time for them to register for the next sitting should they fail. So much time is lost and so many people are hurt by it, but it's like trying to turn the Titanic around to get them to join the 21st century!

I failed two times the CRNE exam. I tried to find more books /questions practice on web and I was very surprised how many guidelines are for NCLEX compare with CRNE exam. I am struggle with psycho-social questions. Any advice will be welcome.
PS. I found an interested preparation site and it seems to be OK.

When I study for nursing tests I take each problem picture myself in a senario with the nursing diagnosis planning and intervention. This visualization helps me more than anything. Take a testing parameter and visualize a senario for it. I do that and then familiarize myself with the medical conditions. In reality you can't know everything. Another thing I do is do several medical math problems a day. Those are easy right answers on the test.

I am currently awaiting my SRNA(saskatchewan registered nurse assoc.)grad. nurse license and I hope to sit the CRNE next year february or June 2009. The reason is, I wanted to prepare better for the exam since I have read its way different from NCLEX/CGFNS type that Philippine nurses are being prepped for since students. My employers, Sunrise Health Region, came here in our country last March 2008, along with a representative from SRNA. They gave out this brochure from SIAST(Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology) wherein we could take "Orientation to Nursing in Canada for Internationally Educated Nurses" a program to help International nurses like me with the transition as well as getting ready for the CRNE exam. Since I have read that it only takes 3 shots, I decided I won't take the risk and enroll once I am there. I do hope I can juggle both studying and working. If there is someone out there who is taking this course or planning to, please share your experience,comments,thoughts about this. I will be sending SIAST an email in a little while to ask for further info's...godbless and goodluck to those who will take the CRNE
