Re: Any Calgary Nurses?
I don't work in Calgary but further north in Alberta.
The issues are basically the same throughout the province. Increased patient acuity, increasing patient to nurse ratio, working short staffed most shifts. Equipment is getting old on some units and is slow to be replaced. Families are very demanding and often aggressive as are the patients. Overtime is available to pretty much anyone who wants it. Burnout in nurses is becoming common and stress levels are rising.
The provincial economy is booming, housing, utilities, food, transportation costs are rising. Nurses don't receive the same bonus payments as oil field workers.
