Has anyone heard any fall-out from the strike the West Virginia doctors had a little while ago? Any results? Any bashing? Any anything?

2000 PA Doctors are supposed to strike this week--today or tomorrow I think. My understanding is they are striking with no office hours; still doing hospital rounds.

Anyone have more specific info?

Except for media coverage, I think for the most part the strike around here was a non-event. Most of the people marching looked like office personel wearing scrubs. I wonder about WV also.

Most doctors offices in Delaware County + Montgomery Co, SE PA were CLOSED this entire week along with many offices in South and West Phialdephia areas. Mercy Hospital Philadlphia and Mercy Suburban Norristown had 30-40 % increase in ER volume.
(Guess a lot of Docs in hospital system I'm affiliated with are FED UP with malpractice rates) 10 % docs have left our Major referral hosptial---traveled to Western suburbs area hospital with big drop in rates as not treating Philadelphia residents now.

Our E.D. was hopping today too. Already it's one of the busiest E.D.s around--40,000 annual visits. And we're not a level 3 trauma center. Busy busy place.

Watched the Philly rally on PCN last night. Also watched the Pgh rally on the news. The Philly docs were soooo much more radical. On KDKA it said that very few Pgh doctors actually attended. Most of them sent staff. It also said that very few city of Pgh patients were inconvienced. The city hospitals apparently beefed up staffing to handle an influx of patients that never came. After the broadcast of the rally there was a round table discussion of healthcare crisis in Pa. It was so well rounded. It took the current insurance situation and put it into the context of all the woes healthcare is facing. Excellent, Excellent.

It really affected people all across the country with the WV malpractice insurance group went into receivership. Here where I live we had many doctors that could not admit patients to the hospital r/t having no malpractice insurance. It is a scary thought and had really got people thinking.
