What is in the future of the USA’s health care system?

Accordingly to the increasing on medical cost, may be possible that the USA’s health care system could change within the next several years due to the inability of the Americans to afford medical care?
If a change on the health care system would take place, how this change would affect to the nursing profession?

On the contrary I think nursing will do just fine, its the business model of health care that will change. It will effect the MDs ( in a negative sense) more than the RN.

Single payer is coming. (Business wants to get out of the provision of health care business. Chrysler should be a car company not a health insurance company).

Our pay will not be affected in a material way.

Much less will be spent on profit and administration.

A person on Medicare can see whatever doctor they want and a NURSE does not differentiate the care she gives a Medicare patient from a health insurance patient. Universal Health care can be the same. Keep private drug companies and middle men out of the equation. The hospital pays the nurses wages and if the hospital is unionized strongly, the nurses negotiate for pay and benefits as always. The hospital will not be able to get away with cutting wages. Greedy health care corporation CEOs that will not accept the Universal Health Care payment or patients will have to compete with those who do and probably have to have only one vacation to Europe that year. I think that healthcare corporations should be mandated to accept Universal Healthcare or they will be out of business. My view of the possibilities.

How can there be freedom of choice in healthcare if we mandate participation???

If Universal Healthcare offers tangible benefits to providers and members there will be no need to mandate participation by doctors or the general public. Both providers and consumers will be scrambling to sign up.

Mandates become necessary when people don't want to join because the system is no better (and possibly worse) than what they already have.

Providers are not required to participate in Medicare and/or Medicaid or any other insurance program. Nor should they be required to participate in a national health plan. This is the U.S., where we value freedom!

Like with medicare I think most hospitals and providers will choose the care for the patients. And I doubt EMTALA will be repealed.
