I visited this post earlier and I will say this again. I choose NOT to get into a debate here over whether racism does or does not exist in nursing. I believe racism, ageism, sexism, exists all over. YES IT DOES where there is a BLACK HEART and and IGNORANT MIND that house such feelings. But I also know there are programs offering "minority" nursing students a way into the program that I did not have access to as a white female. Not complaining, just pointing this out. Let's try to get PAST THIS ALREADY! I AM!

Yeah, there is enough pain and suffering going on, let's not get back on this hurtful issue.

There are many variables to this subject.

Here is a shocking revelation!
Since I have been going back to college(2 schools, 3 years)not one hispanic has even recieved a passing grade on any exam even! I am utterly horified and sickened with white guilt While white and black students even croatian I think, pass through into nursing courses at my school which has been certified "exemplary" by the state board, hispanics are not even passing the exams!

............Oh.....uhhm.......Did I mention that neither school has any hispanic enrollment?.............No huh..........Well sorry then, my mistake.......never mind. I guess you can't really build a case for discrimination with no enrollment............No, you really can.

What about males not enrolling? Is there a variable here? Does the role of hispanic males vs non-hispanic males impact the writers opinnion.

Don't think they even considered it.

I think you'll find a culture difference fueling this disparity.

Yes, let's ignore it and bury it deep. That's always the best way.

What I meant, Sharon, is that it's already a post on the other forum. What SmilingBlueEyes said very well is the whole point. It exists all over and will continue to exist. Don't know if you meant your comment in cynical manner or not, but racism can't ever be buried, no matter how hard society tries. But does it need to be hashed out on this forum? Not for me.

Racism exists across all cultures and all organizations. I refuse to feel guilty about it because I am not racist. I have been, what I feel, discriminated against as well due to my being white.

It exists all over and until we teach our kids to NOT practice this, as well as not practicing REVERSE discrimination and affording the SAME opportunities to ALL people, not certain opportunities to certain people, will we ever get past this.

Just work hard, do your best and be recongized for that. Let's not cushion everyone's fall and let's not ignore those who work hard. It's that simple.

Being Hispanic AND a nurse let me say that I have never encountered any racism during my carreer.
Either it hasn't happened or I just don't care to see it and am truly blind to it.
New Mexico isn't the only state that I have held a license in either.
PEACE AND LOVE,
-Russell
