PA Mandatory overtime bill SB 989 referred to senate Labor committee

From PSNA listserve:
Senate Bill 989 Referred to Labor and Industry Committee

Senate Bill 989 was referred to the Senate Labor and Industry Committee on June 20, 2001. If enacted, this legislation will prohibit the use of mandatory overtime among nurses as a means to staff hospitals and healthcare facilities.*You may now also
view the language of the actual bill on the General Assembly web site or use the link below.
Labor and Industry was not the desired committee for this legislation to be referred to. PSNA needs the support of all nurses in order to get this bill out of committee and passed by the full Senate. The legislature has started their summer recess and
will return to Harrisburg in early September.* Let your voice be heard now. More information and action steps...
http://www.psna.org/hotissues/mobill.htm

Because this was referred to senate labor and industry, instead of healthcare committee as expected, this will be a dogfight between hospital lobbyists and nursing. Please WRITE state senators your comments and effect Mandtory Overtime has had on You! Karen

Thumbs up

NRSKarenRN,
Thanks for the link. I just got a call from Senator Kukovich's office re: this bill. Wanted to bring this back to the top. I would urge all Pennsylvania nurses click on the above link and contact their local senator to support this bill. It is a step in the right direction.
Carrie

Thanks for posting this info-I hope we can make a difference but I am afraid not...Pa. is a right-to-work state which means that we are each and every one darn lucky to have a job and must appreciate our employers and thank them for allowing us to be used and abused....The labor laws in this state are to protect the employer not the employee..
