Nurse presses charges against ER pt and wins

Locally an ER nurse pressed charges against a pt for groping her while she attempted to draw his blood. Can't post the story or link as it's a pay subscription-only news site, but wanted to send out a "good for her!" Pt was found guilty this week for misdemeanor battery. I don't know how much flack she may have taken from TPTB regarding pressing these charges, but I suspect they weren't supportive. This wasn't about money - none involved, but I'm proud of her for standing up.

Good for that nurse! I sure hope she still has a job! I can't imagine TPTB standing up for their staff -- in my long and geographically varied career, I've never run into an institution that would have!

Good for her! It's about time we start standing up to the harrassment we get from patients.

I don't know what TPTB is, so I can't comment on that.

Re: Nurse presses charges against ER pt and wins

Awesome! I had a patient grope at all the CNA's and RN's in my facility...but I was told not to make a stink about it because he "couldn't help it" or "he has dementia...give him a break".

But this guy KNEW what he was doing...and knew who he could get away with it with! To me that isn't so much dementia as purposeful harrasment.

The patient did pass away before anyone really created a charge against him, but one CNA that did threaten to press charges was fired that day! She was fondled in the breasts putting his O2 tubing on..and he said "oops...silly me *giggle*". Then tweeked her nipple saying *beep beep*!!!

What does protect us from sexual harrassment of patients, especially ones that may have dementia issues or other excuses (valid or not) like 'on narcotics' or "not in their right mind'..or my favorite "you just imagined it..I am sure it was nothing...don't create problems!"....
