Norton Audobon Hospital Ordered To Pay $171,000 Judgment For Illegally Firing Nurses

Three Registered Nurses from Norton Audobon Hospital have won $171,000 in back pay from Norton Audobon Hospital in a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decision.

The nurses were illegally fired by Norton Audobon for advocating for better care for their patients and for RNs at the hospital to organize with Nurses Professional Organization (NPO), a Kentucky-based union of Registered Nurses that is affiliated with the National Nurses Organizing Committee (NNOC).

The firings were part of a pattern of harassment by Norton Audobon of its own nurses that is both under investigation by the NLRB, and indicative of the serious problems at the facility that are severely hindering patient care….

Geez...it's about time. They've only been fighting this for about 13 years. This all started when they made staffing cuts on the L&D units, and when the nurses tried to organize, the hospital fired some of them, and did away with some positions held by the nurses. They tried to move one of them to med/surg. One got fired for allegedly flushing an IV with 5cc NS without an order. One was escorted out of the bldg after putting union flyers in the breakroom.

Audubon kept appealing the pay back for years, while these nurses sat in limbo.
