Do we really care?

Are we really concerned about the working conditions that face nurses in the USA? If so, where is the meaningful and effective action from the 2.7 million nurses. We have enough strength in our numbers to ROCK the healthcare system and cause some major change.

There are forces out there that would do away with nursing and replace us with UAP's in a heartbeat if they could get away with it and they are slowly chipping away at the foundations that hold nursing in it's place.

If we really care then let's unite and move forward. I think things are to the point that we can set aside differences and all agree on the issues that threaten nursing the most:

staffing cuts
cost-cutting for the sake of profit
unsafe patient care conditions
lack of respect from other disciplines in healthcare
increased exposure to liability due to unsafe workloads
disrespect and contempt from healthcare administrations
absence of nursing presence in key positions of leadership
absence of nursing being portrayed as expert care providers in our healthcare system--always seem to talk to a doctor
