I know they publish a mag just for correctional nurses/nursing issues. Next time I'm at county I'll ask the nurse there. She's new. The reguirement for here is to be bilingual Spanish/English. (Northern California). I'll bet there is certification.

The NCCHC has a CCHP- Certified Correctional Health Provider. You need to take a test and pay them money and then the next year you just need to show them that you have CEU's and send the check and then keep your cerification. Of course in my state, being certified doesn't do anything for your pay scale but at least you are covered in case the inmate decides to sue you or something.

You must have 3 years of documented experience in the correctional healthcare field to be eligible to take the CCHP test. The fee for testing is $150. After you have been a CCHP for 3 years you may test to become a CCHP-A (Certified Correctional Health Professional Advanced). Hope this info helps.
