I am planning on starting my prereq's at a local community college in January and then transfer to a hospital based nursing program in the Philadelphia area - Abington. Couple of questions, has anyone done their program? If so, did you like it? I am planning on doing their evening/weekend program (working full time with a 2 year old son - how am I going to do it???). Just wondering what it was like.

I am so excited about this career change! I am 32 years old and have finally decided to do what I wanted to do all those years ago. I have found myself obsessed with everything that has to with nursing - Discovery Health channel, the internet, books, etc. I think my fiance is getting tired of me talking about nursing all the time.

Anyway...I can't wait to hear from someone about this program!

I'm not in Philly, Pittsburgh actually, but I just wanted to write you and tell you good luck. You have come to the right state. At least here in Pittsburgh there are tons of great nursing programs.

I am like you in that I am some what obsessed with Discovery Health, TLC, televised operations and such. It really grosses my husband out.

Ps what classes are you taking to start out with?

Will you be going through the program through Abington Hospital? If so, I've read newspaper articles about them lately.. they've apparently been revamping the program to better accomodate returning/adult students. I've also heard that the program itself is really good.. I went to school right down the street at PSU- Ogontz. Good Luck!

Thanks Colleen! I am going to need the luck. It will be tough. The prereq's that are needed before transfering into the program are the following:

A&P I and II, Microbiology, Chemistery, English Comp, Nutrition, Psychology, Sociology and Life Span Psych. I have heard horror stories about Micro and A&P but hopefully I will be able to get through it. Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks Jennifer! Yes, it's the nursing program through Abington Hospital. They are a wonderful teaching hospital and I have also heard great things about their programs. They are currently expanding the hospital which should be done by 2006, just in time when I graduate! I know their evening program is tough and has alot of older adults with kids/family/full time jobs but I think I can do it. Thanks for the welcome also!
