Depends on the entity, peds77. Yes, there are those who are employed in the hospitals and others work for the city, county, state, etc.....

I was very interested in SANE nursing when I was an LPN. I just graduated and passed my boards and now have my RN. I went to a Forensic Nurses Seminar last week and it was GREAT!!! I will be taking my class in May. I can not believe that the class is only 40 hours. It seems like there is sooooo much more to learn than can be packed into 40 hours.

I am VERY excited to start getting involved in this noble profession.

I have applied and received an interview for a SANE - SART position (72 hours a month required). They are accepting applications from people with no experience or certifications, as they will fully train and certify new hires.

They have asked for ICU/CCU/ED/PACU experience, which I do not have, although I am ACLS certified as I have had a year and a half of tele experience.

Is there a reason they ask for that experience?

Also, other than my passion for working in this field, what would a program coordinator look for in someone they are about to hire?

I would really like a chance to work as a SANE RN.

For anyone who has worked in the capacity of a SANE RN or rape crisis counselor, what could one expect from a call to ED? I am interested in a "day in the life of..." scenario, although I know it might be hard to narrow it in such a way.

Thank you.

My wife just finished her SANE training and has interviewed and is waiting on her certification. She has yet to do a case on her own though. Please keep her in your thoughts. I'm very proud of her.
