Re: Nurse Death Investigation
Hi, when I worked in a level 1 trauma center, the medical examiners office held grand rounds on Thursdays which I was welcomed to attend. It was death investigations via slide show and often involved a multi diciplinary team including homicide detectives, seat belt research nurses, 3-4 death investigators and the coroner. The topics changed weekly. I saw entry and exit wounds, blood splatters, serial killer's signatures, the list goes on and on. In summary I walked away learning there are a ton of ways people die. I entertained becoming a forensic nurse, attended national conferences. I admire Anne Burgess, and her collaeges I currently work in a state prison, which is another aspect of forensics. Here's my idea for a forensic nurse: Write protocols for school districts on how to identify potential mass killers, and what to do with them before they act out. Each region in the states would have their own system, and a forensic nurse could help bridge the gap between law enforcement, school districts, and psychiatric care centers. Just a thought.
