Medicolegal Death Investigator
I love it. I attended the Medicolegal Death Investigation School at St. Louis University. It is well worth it. The parts I like are helping a victim who cannot help themselves, or help a victim help themself if the victim is still alive.
Challenges are often territorial. Police, FBI, DEA, etc, and nursing in the new division on the block. While they like our help, they don't quite trust us not to contaminate the crime scene, which is like us contaiminating sterile field.
There are any number of crimes that a nurse can be involved with.
You can choose your hours sometimes. I have to. Remember, though, the blood and guts crimes often are weekend nights. Often there are victims and survivors, so those are the times you are likely to get a call.

At first I was thinking of getting out of nursing altogether and go into the law enforcement/legal arena. But then I stumbled into this specialty of nursing....and Im am SO EXCITED!!!
My request to you all is to: introduce your particular specific occupation in this specialty and then tell me what your feelings are about your job/career AND tell me what do you like about it and what are some occasional challenges you encounter in your job.
I would be so grateful to any and all who respond to this posting to help educate me about what you do...
Thanks so much in advance.
