Yes, a non-nurse can seek certification in forensic science. Here is a link to the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute of Forensic Science (ACFEI), for information about the Certified Medical Investigator-II.

Also, there are other types of forensic programs out there such as the certification as a Forensic Video Analyst, Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation, etc.

You do not have to be an RN in order to enter into the world of forensics. Many degreed programs out there for the non-nurse.

But, in order to become a Forensic Nurse, one would have to first become LPN or RN. (and, we hope you decide upon nursing as a career path, too.)
