- Nov 13, '11 by LunahRNPretty sure you don't need the CFN first -- I know lots of SANE-A nurses and a few SANE-Ps and I don't think they have their CFN.

Looks like you have to have 3 years as an RN, as well as didactic training and a certain amount of experience in the forensic nurse role. - Nov 14, '11 by KC4NSICRNYou do not need that certification to become a SANE. Check with the individual program to see what they require. Good Luck!
