I am new to this site, and I am sure this question has been answered a thousand times. However, I just would like to know, do you have to get the CFN certification before SANE-A or SANE P or can you just get the SANE certifications?

Pretty sure you don't need the CFN first -- I know lots of SANE-A nurses and a few SANE-Ps and I don't think they have their CFN.

So when in doubt, I google. Here's your answer: http://www.acfei.com/forensic_certifications/cfn/

Looks like you have to have 3 years as an RN, as well as didactic training and a certain amount of experience in the forensic nurse role.
  5. You do not need that certification to become a SANE. Check with the individual program to see what they require. Good Luck!
