by mhz1973 Nov 14, '12I'm in my final semester of prereqs (Stats & Microbiology). An advisor & i planned everything fron day one. I applied July 1st, and got rejected Nov 1st. I have a 3.75 gpa. I'm devistated. Now foe the past 2 Weeks, I've been running around like an idiot trying to make PTECs deadline for their Jan2013 LPN program.
Anyone else not get accepted? Do you know why? What are you going to do now?

- Nov 14, '12 by perioddramaI am not sure if the school you applied to is on a point-type system.
Your GPA is great; however, it may not have been competitive enough for that batch that applied. Secondly, are you volunteering? Was there an essay component? How were your letters of recommendations?
You can always ask to them see why you were rejected. And then, work on strengthening those weaknesses.
Good luck! - Nov 14, '12 by mhz1973No essay, no volunteering requirement that I'm aware of, also didn't see / no one told me I needed letters of recommendation. It was an online application.

- Nov 17, '12 by tmcneill0524Quote from mhz1973The issue is the point system that they use for acceptance. You could have a 4.0 GPA but they set their point system up so that a student with one class still in progress and a 3.8 to 3.9 GPA has less points than a student with a 3.5 GPA and all prerequisites completed. I was accepted for January 2013, but only through my Earn as you learn program at BayCare, my employer. I knew that I could not get in through St. Pete only because I was still in microbiology this semester. If you apply for the next semester then you will have no problem getting in with all pre-req's complete and that GPA.I'm in my final semester of prereqs (Stats & Microbiology). Anyone else not get accepted? Do you know why? What are you going to do now? - Nov 18, '12 by mhz1973See, my advisor didn't tell me that. She said I could still be accepted while still taking my final prereqs. So annoying & disappointing. So, what do I do in the meantime? Should I take more classes at SPC, such as college algebra (I'd need that for BSN, correct?), and forgo the LPN program at PTEC? Ughh! I need to speak to another advisor. I heard Tammy at the HEC is really good.
- Nov 18, '12 by mhz1973& lets hope my GPA is still up to par after Micro. Lol! Are you in my class?? McQuaig's?

Is my angel!!! I have been meeting with her and only her for the last 2 years to prepare! I would review the requirements for RN program and then the classes needed for BSN program. Btw, College Algebra & statistics are pre-req's for the associate degree nursing program so if you have not taken those I would recommend meeting with Tammy ASAP to receive factual guideline info and form a plan to completely prepare. Best of luck!!! Also, I never made an appt with Tammy, walking in I never waited more than 20 minutes. - Nov 18, '12 by tmcneill0524Mhz1973~
I apologize, college algebra is not required for RN, only BSN. I completed my AA degree while doing pre-req's so I took it but not required. Truthfully, get the info by going straight to the reliable source, an HEC advisor:-) Let me know how it goes. Tammy is great in so many ways but especially in her kind yet realistic view of your current chances of being accepted & also excellent at recommending ways to improve those chances!!
