Anybody go to Keiser? - Page 3
Register Today!- May 7, '11 by GirlDotsonQuote from orlandochFrom what I understand, you have to have a cumulative gpa of 3.0. The app fee was $200; it is non-refundable. Your addmissions counselor will walk you through the paperwork part. Then you take the Wonderlic. It doesn't cost anything. You have to score at least 20, or you will need to retake it. It didn't seem that difficlt. Jsut basic quesions. I scored 22 the first time. You are not ccepted until after you pass the TEAS, which costs $50 the first time, and $25 for each section if you have to re-take any (you can take the TEAS two times in two weeks, but if you fail both times, you have to wait four months to try again), pass a background, get a release from your doc stating you can work in all the labs (like that you don't have any health condition that will interfere with you being able to complete your degree). Then you do the interview with the Director of Nursing or the Dean. Once all that is done, they will let you know if you have been accepted. Phew! That was a mouthful...lol.$3000 in the form of pellgrants ? so you applied for fafsa way before you applied to keiser ? could you tell me how is the process ?
first you go to keiser
pay the application fee ? how much is it ? then you apply
you take the wonderlic test, right ? you get accepted then ?
then what ?
you apply for the nursing program ? take the teas and then the interview ? whats the cost of the teas ? im guessin you have to wait to see if u get accepted into the program before applying for financial aid or taking out/signing any loans, right ?
u are in the program, right ? I have read that one needs to have a 3.0 gpa to be accepted .. is this 3.0 gpa in all the general courses here
http://ksweb.keiseruniversity.edu/do...sing_gened.pdf
or do u have to get 3.0 gpa only in general education, and not sciences ?
I go Mondy morning to take the TEAS. OOOOBER nervous! I will be up @ 6 in the morning getting in the last bit of studying I can. Good luck, and I hope you love Keiser! - May 8, '11 by orlandochQuote from NC1990Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions ... you said you took your prereqs at hcc, what was your gpa in the prereqs ? Keiser says you need 3.0 cumulative gpa, so Im guessing they are referring to the prereqs I posted here (30 hours) ..Yea you have it right... But i took the wonderlic back in 2008 which i passed with a good enough score to even be considered when i was fresh out of high school and there was no application fees due at that time (so i guess my wonderlic score from back then was still good to use)...so when i was ready to apply to the program after taking my prereqs at hcc i went back to apply and the application fees came to a total of $250 for the school and the nursing program together, then i took the teas which is free for the first time..if you have to retake any of the sections it's $25 per section. I passed the teas, then got set up for an interview and they called me that same day and told me i got in. And you don't necessarily have to wait to get accepted to do your fafsa, you can just fill it out and put in the school code or codes if you are considering different schools. in my case i had filled it out last year for 2010/2011 because i was still at my other school taking classes...keiser just went in and switched the school code for me and transferred my info. And that list you have of the courses is correct...i was told students need to maintain a 3.0 gpa to keep their spot in the nursing program to avoid losing their seat...if u happen to make a C or something it wont hurt you just make sure you have enough A's and B's in all classes on that list to weigh your gpa at 3.0 anything below a C needs to be repeated....i didnt take my gen. ed's there so i can't go into detail, that is just what they have told me. That's the order i went through the process in.
were you told that students have to maintain a 3.0 gpa while they are in the nursing program ? or just to be considered for the program ?
I have As and only a C on some of the prereqs, but I still have to take A & P 1 and 2, micro, English literature .. Im currently at Broward college taking some prereqs.
Some sections let you choose between to classes
For example, in the English section you need 3 credit hours and they let you choose between enc1101 or enc1102, if a person has a B in enc1101 and an A in 1102, do they take the higher grade ?
I also would like to know how was interview like? what do they ask you ? do they make you write anything ?
Quote from GirlDotsonI have read that the Wonderlic test is not required, if one already has an associate degree of arts. You are saying that the first time, the TEAS costs $50 and if you dont get the required score on an specific section such as math for example, then you have to pay $25 to take that section again, right ? so basically you can take the TEAS three times before waiting 4 months ? sorry for all the questions, is just that English is my second language. From what I understand, you have to have a cumulative gpa of 3.0. The app fee was $200; it is non-refundable. Your addmissions counselor will walk you through the paperwork part. Then you take the Wonderlic. It doesn't cost anything. thank you for your help. - May 8, '11 by GirlDotsonYou can only take the TEAS TWO times in TWO weeks, and then you have to wait 4 months to take it again. By 2 times in 2 weeks, I mean, for example, if you pass math, reading, and language, but fail science, you can tetake the section you failed one more time within two weeks. IF you fail all of it, you can retake all of it one more time within two weeks. So, you only get 2 goes at it, then you must wait four months to make another attept.
And, I am in Tallahassee. The fee I have to pay at this Keiser may be different from what you have to pay at a different campus. - May 9, '11 by NC1990Hey Orlandoch! you are very welcome. I had a lot of questions during this process also. In my prereqs my gpa was only a 3.2 since their requirements were just a tad bit different, they did not look at my gen. psychology or lifespan grades which i got A's in both so my gpa dropped. But keiser on the other hand looked at both of those grades which brought me up to a 3.5. In the nursing program they told me we have to maintain a 2.5...But the prereqs should weigh out to at least a 3.0.. You seem to have good grades already so the gpa shouldn't be a problem just keep making those A's because that C most likely wont hurt you in the end. And about the english credits, thats a good question because i took 1 & 2 but 2 wasn't required for me at hcc i just took it so it will be out of the way when i go for a higher degree. Im thinking they would just take one of the two and pick the better grade..it makes more sense b/c they only look for 3 english credits. Oh and about the interview....I was SUPER nervous but it was nothing like i thought! The director of nursing was very nice and made me feel comfortable...she wanted to know my goals and if i was ready to put in the effort...she didn't even keep me long. It was a breeze! The only thing i had to do was put together a portfolio for her to look at (which she kept by the way). I included a letter of intent, a resume, unofficial transcripts, high school diploma, and 3 letters of recommendation...thats about all i had since i don't have any experience but she liked it. But if you have anymore questions ill be more than happy to help as much as possible
- May 9, '11 by orlandochQuote from NC1990so, they told you to assemble a portfolio with all those things for the interview ? are the 3 letters of recommendation mandatory ? who wrote your letter of recommendation ? why 3 ? is not like is medical school lolHey Orlandoch! you are very welcome. pd: I had a feeling that one needs to get a 2.5 gpa to continue in the program .. you need to have at least "C" which stands for continuing lol
thank youLast edit by orlandoch on May 9, '11 - May 10, '11 by NC1990Quote from orlandochlol haha yea i know right! But yes they had us make a portfolio, you don't have to put all that in there, ask them to show you a sample because they should have some to use as examples. The main things my advisor told me to include were the letters of recommendation and resume..i added the extras b/c i saw it in one of the example portfolios so i was trying to top that lol. Just put effort into it and make it look nice, i don't think the portfolio will make or break you b/c i saw her just flip through it during the interview (after i made it all pretty). oh and i had one written from a good friend/co-worker, my anatomy teacher, and my aunt who is a nurse already. idk why they want 3 but it shouldn't be hard finding people who will help you out. And the one from my friend co-worker was actually written by me...she was taking too long but she knows i wrote a letter for myself from her lol and of course i made myself look oh so good! And yes C for continuing lol! My professor tells us we are good with a C because one letter doesn't determine our ability to be good nursesso, they told you to assemble a portfolio with all those things for the interview ? are the 3 letters of recommendation mandatory ? who wrote your letter of recommendation ? why 3 ? is not like is medical school lol

thank you - May 10, '11 by orlandochQuote from NC1990so basically you wrote a letter for yourself from her and your co-worker friend knew about this just in case they call to check ? did you put their phone numbers ? did she read your letter of intent ?lol haha yea i know right! - May 11, '11 by NC1990yep! i initially asked my managers at work but none of them were willing to help me out because i asked on numerous occasions, they are the type to just blow you off like "ugh i don't have time for that". So i told my friend who i have been working with for over 3 years and she didn't mind it at all so i went ahead because i NEEDED that last letter. But she is not the type to sit and write a professional letter. And yea all the letters included name number and relationship. And i really don't know if she read the letter because she just flipped through it in front of me but she might have took a deeper look after the interview.
- May 11, '11 by campercassI used a small, I think it was a 1/2" 3-ring binder for my portfolio. Everything I put in it, I enclosed in separate clear pocket type page protectors that were designed for the binders. I included resume, transcripts, recommendation letters,"applause o grams" that we get at work from coworkers who want to say we did something well, and certificates from seminars I had attended when I was an office manager. For my rec. letters, I had one from the triage nurse at work, one from the clinical nurse manager at work, and one from one of the CPNP's from work, who is also retired Air Force. I also included a rec. letter from several years ago written by one of the doctors I was office manager for before I left Ohio, to show my management experience. I have no clinical experience, just medical office and billing experience, so I felt like I had to pull out all the stops the best I could. The nurse instructor who interviewed me went through the entire portfolio, and read all the letters, in front of me!

did you go to Hillsborough Community College ? if so, what classes did you take there to fulfill the humanities requirements at Keiser
I have checked HCC catalog and there are 4 classes that i think might transfer to keiser
AML2010 - American literature to 1885
AM2020 - American literature 1885 to present
ENL2012 - British literature to 1800
ENL2022 - British literatre 1800 to present
In keiser in order to complete the humanities requirements you need to take one of these 2 :
AML1000 - American literature
ENL1000 - English literature
which of those 4 classes did u take that counted towards the humanities requirements ? I really need to know this since I dont want to take any prereqs at Keiser
