Where are the FL BON Approved RN Refresher Courses

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I live in the Pensacola/Milton/Tallahassee area. I am in need of an RN refresher course, due to expired RN license. I have searched high and low on the site, and cant find anything. Its even difficult to locate anything from the Board of Nursing, in FL. The Online classes are for the birds, they cost in excess of 1500.00 to 2k  Any input would be greatly appreciated. If I can't locate anything....gotta do what I gotta do.....

Hi Cutepinay29:

So sorry to hear about you not being able to pass your NCLEX, how frustrating. The only program I know is Capscare Academy, the one I completed online. I did the clinical part of it onsite at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. They have it worked out with SHH for that. There are other online programs but you must do clinical down south. I would check that Greenville College out, to make sure its Florida State Board approved. I know this Capscare is Florida Board Approved. They accepted mine with no problems I atttched the website below. Its pricey, but worth it. Let me know If I can be of anymore help. Good luck

Hey again RN in FL:

Thanks for replying. Yeah i'm sorry too, it is frustrating, I guess I just don't take tests very well anyway. I emailed Capscare after I left you that comment which they wrote back and seemed to be willing to help in anyway. So it only took you 2-3 weeks to finish? I work a full time job, not sure I'd be able to complete it that quick. Was there a lot of books you had to purchase for this class? And overall how much did it cost you? Was SHH really nice about you doing clinical there? what floor did you precept on? Did you have a good preceptor? I guess I'm just nervous to do this remediation course/clinical, ive been out of school for over a year now.

Also I know that I need to obtain a letter from boards before I even begin the remedial course. But FL BON stated I would need to provide the name of the program, the name & location of clinical site, & anticipated date of completion of clinical component. Not even sure what to put there.

Last question for right now: How long did it take for you to complete everything w/theory & clinical? and were you eligible to take the RN boards again as soon as you were done with that?

Now for me I didn't need to re-take the NCLEX, I just needed to have my license re-instated/re-activated, since I haven't worked in over 5 yrs. I just had to send my info to the Board of Nursing. The course is work at your own speed. I had time on my hands. Its online, of course, so I worked on it all time of the day and night, completing the modules. I completed the online work in about 4wks. The clinical portion is 96hrs to satisfy that aspect. That is at your own pace as well. I wanted that over with too. My preceptor worked 12h shifts. So I did her schedule. I worked 4 weekends in a row 12hr sat/sun. That knocked out the 96 hrs. If I remember the course cost 1695.00. Then you have to pay for background check, all your immunizations and stuff to get you into SHH, tb test, if you need it. Let me know how it go

Hello,[is there an online course that will really help to pass rn nclex, I graduated RN school in 2008, but never sat for boards. I don't need credits and I am a nurse case manager at clinic and have no plans to work in clinic setting. So need help to refresh and learn what I need to. Don't have money to sink into something that won't help me pass. Determined but all local colleges won't let me audit. Surely there is a way. Help and advice please. Thanks,

JoJoAngel

Dear cutepinay29,

I live in Walnut Hill FL north of Pensacola. Please if you have any suggestions please advise. Did you pass boards ?

I have been a LPN since 84, grad RN in 2008 due to life circumstances, I have not sat for Boards. I have been working Nurse Case Manager for 5 years. I don't plan to use clinicals, but want to pass NCLEX, need solid info to pass. Very confusing which way to go. Help. Please advise asap.

So, Kaplan Review, is an online program, that I hear is great. I have heard if you study how they tell you, and do their review, you WILL pass the NCLEX. I will be investing in this for my daughter. She gets pinned in May, and will be taking her NCLEX soon after. IF you are a case manager, I am sure, having your RN will only enhance. Hope this helps.

I lived in Milton-Pensacola area. I passed the NCLEX May 2010 but unable to acquire my RN license because I don't have my SSN. I'm originally from the Philippines and i'm waiting on my green card. Right Now, I do have my SSN. Is it possible I can take the refresher course? My case is different I haven't practicing in the field for four years now. I appreciate for some info. thanks

Congrats Lena! If you desire refresher course, then that would be the course. But if you passed the NCLEX, you should have a license . Not understanding that part. How did they let you register for the NCLEX without a SSN??? hmmmm. Anyhoo.....The course I took was online course work then finished up with clinical with a preceptor at Sacred Heart Hospital.
