Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!

Yeah well USF is terrible with paperwork and I just got into UCF's absn program so good riddance USF!

Hello,

I am new to the group. I have also applied for Summer 2012. Just waiting for a decision now. I have questions about after you get accepted. I see someone mentioned a hugh packet coming to you once accepted...what's all apart of this packet? is there a lot of background things we will need to do? Do we start clinicals soon as we start the program in the Summer? Guess I'm a little nervous about being thrown out in the community the first semester and not knowing what to do. Anyone with any helpful tips please give me some info.

I am 28, I have a BS in Biology and Minor in Psychology from Eckerd College. I have a MS is Medical Sciences from USF College of Medicine. I have worked as a pharm tech, associate chemist, and microbiologist. I am hopeful about the program and look forward to becoming a nurse :)

I'm new to this site and this thread. I'm a career changer (I'm 52, I'm a lawyer, I have an MBA). I know I want to be involved in diagnosing and treating patients, so I'm trying to decide between taking a couple extra prereqs and trying for PA school or going the accelerated bsn route and then going for nurse practitioner after.

My question is: USF says their mission is to raise the level of professional nursing practice and prepare more bsn's for the Tampa Bay Area.

If I say in my essay I want to go through their program but then go on to be an NP, will they view that as a negative?

I went through the same thing! I was thinking of becoming a PA and I went to Barry's info session. The program was quite expensive and it would take 2 years. The accelerated is quicker, do not need to take the GRE (for USF at least), and it's cheaper. So I went that route and plan to purse ARNP....I do not think that would be negative to say in your essay...they want to know your goals so I included that and it hasn't hurt me (yet) lol....when are you applying for?

I had to complete a couple of pre-req for the program and I am applying for Summer.....we should find out in a couple of weeks....

Thanks for the reply!

If I go PA, I've got Gen Chem II, Organic Chem, and, depending on whose program you look at, Gen Bio and College Algebra.

If I go to USF accel bsn, I'm finishing A&P II this semester and that's it.

I have a 4.0 in all my pre-reqs. My problem as far as PA goes is "healthcare experience." Lawyers don't get much! Most schools say they don't value CNA or home health, so I'm sort of in a pickle.

My most recent thought is try to get in to USF, get the bsn, and then either work and hope an employer will pay for the rest or go directly on as soon as I can.

Good luck!

I am also new to this thread. I applied to the Summer 2012 accelerated BSN program and I am anxious to find out about being accepted or not. I am a little nervous about getting in but very hopeful. I currently have a B.S. in Health Science/Health Service Administration and I am 4 classes away from my M.S. in Health Service Administration at UCF. I currently work in a hospital and have been here for a little over 2 years so I am hoping my clinical and administrative work experience and my 3.5 GPA will help me get in. Good luck to everyone that has applied and hopefully we will all start the program together. I know they only accept 24 studnets into the program each semester so it is a little nerve wrecking since I am sure well over 100 people have applied.

I also had to take A&PII and nutrition (they wouldn't accept my clinical nutrition from my Masters).....you could knock that out easily online at USF. Maybe you could do a little volunteering at a hospital while you are taking that class....also sign up for patho of nursing practice...they want you to take this class before starting the nursing program if possible.

Not sure if you followed the thread (I read all 40 pages lol) I heard they rely on the writing sample, science pre-reqs, and healthcare experience. They follow some type of point system. I am excited to find out what happens....I check daily to see if anything has changed...we should know something in about 2 weeks hopefully. Yes I hear about 500-800 people apply a year.

I just came across this thread. I have applied to the 2012 Accelerated BSN and now I'm just anxiously waiting to hear. I received my BS in Chemistry from UF last summer and currently work as a patient care tech on a medical-surgical unit. Best of luck to all as we wait for news.

I have applied too for the summer 2012. I have a B.S. in Emergency Management and I am looking to get a nursing qualification to complement my first degree. Ultimately I could assist and help prepare hospitals and the healthcare community in preparing for natural and terrorist disasters. In addition, I would like to do Doctors without Borders or another NGO. Does any one know, which hospitals they allow us to choose for clinicals? I read on previous posts that the Accelerated BSN have fewer choices???

Anyone know?

Jtwynn: how did you get hired as a PCT at a hospital? The ones in our area require 1 yr experience. The problem is, you can't get experience without working! They don't let volunteers do any real patient care work.

Just to chime in to your question. You usually have to work in a nursing home environment or know someone at a hospital.
