Anyone accepted to the 2009 summer start accelerated program? Also, anyone with any information on the program such as hours, days, etc.?

Hi,

I appreciate being able to read these posts. I also applied for the March 1st deadline. I haven't heard anything and getting concerned... Has anyone who applied for the March 1st deadline heard back?

ParaTugloria, I also applied for the March 1 deadline. I am still on a holding pattern as yet. But on the site, they say notification is by April 15th. So guess we shall be hearing soon. Best wishes!

Hey guys! I have been having ALL the same problems. I have called the financial aid office many times and no one there knows anything about our program or about financial aid. They told me there was no aid as well and that is not correct. We can get stafford loans but not until they register us. I applied for a private loan through sallie mae to cover the rest. The interest rate is high but it is the only option really for our program. I'm also annoyed that we can't use mac computers in the program. I also think it is funny how they have deadlines for all this stuff we need to do and I just got an e-mail about doing it last week. It is a mess! Now I have to find the money to buy a new computer as well. But, I'm trying to be optimistic...once we get there hopefully things will be better.

This is kind of random, but has anyone else ordered uniforms? I got the order form and I have no idea how many to order. I am wondering how often we will be wearing them...just for clinicals or for other stuff as well. Hope everyone is doing well with all the recent deadlines!!

I think during the summer we are only in the hospital for clinicals once a week then in the fall and spring semesters we are there about twice a week. I don't know if we need to wear them to the sim labs but I think we only have those once a week. I would think 2 pairs would be enough.

i am trying to get into the program myself. are you basically saying that once you get into this type of program, you might not have a life at all?

Two pairs should be enough...i dont believe we'll have to wear them to the lab...only to clinical...

Haha that's what it seems like. But in the program's defense, I would think that any nursing program (especially accelerated ones) would keep you more than busy. Good luck w/ your application! What term are you applying for?

i am hoping to get in by the fall of this year but with the bad economy. people outside this profession who are losing their job wants to jump on the band wagon and go into the very profession i am interested in. my chances are very slim since i have been away from the educational insitution for decade. i am trying to regain my brain cell back. by the way, are the healthcare industry give you an option to work OT or you have no choice at all if there is shortage of nurses on that particular shift?

Hi Brandon2002

The nursing program is not like any other college program...People in the 4yr program are pulling their hair out...they do not plan any activities before any major exam...because to them the exams are really hard...now consider us who has to do it in one year...We'll have an exam almost every week...Our textbooks are huge...the materials are complex...the exams are not straight forward..you have to learn to think like a nurse when taking these exams...You are going to have research papers due...then you have to prepare for your day at clinical by passing your sims lab...then you have to prepare for your next day at clinical by obtaining all your patients information...reviewing there disease...reviewing all their meds and then doing a care plan...which takes time...And thats the main thing...everything is going to be soo new and going by so fast that we'll have to spend more time on each subject...Its not that your life is over, per say..I might still have to work..i still have to do my yoga..i still have to go to the gym..and i still have to hit south beach whenever i feel like:)...But...nothing would get done unless my school work is complete...So i guess we jus have to learn to prioritize and manage our time wisely...And dont freak ou:)...This seems like a really smart...cool group and once we all pull together from day one and work as a team...i am sure all of our witzs combined would help us get through this program easier....

Hi Brandon2002

I work at a hospital in boston..and yes you do get OT...if you are working 3-11 on your floor..and at 10pm you go downstairs to another floor and they are short..all you have to do is request to work and they would be more than happy to happy to have you...Sometimes money is the least of their problems..they just need the shift to be covered...

Hey guys. School is starting soon. I can't believe it! I was wondering if anyone has bought the white leather nursing shoes yet? I got an e-mail last week about it and I'm not sure what shoes to buy. I think they are all kind of ugly to be honest, but I found a pair by urbane footwear that are all white and have a bit of grey on the sole. Do you guys think that is okay? Also, I didn't know if a sneaker like shoes is okay? What kind of shoes are you guys looking at?

Hey Jes Leigh,

When did you recieve an email about the shoes? did they ask for anything else? Apparently I dont get emails or correspondence from UM. I always get my information from this blog. Will you please cut and paste what they asked for so I can keep up. I feel like I am not even a student at UM.. Does any one else have any list or emails of what we suppossed to be doing? Financial Aid status? Thanks!!!
