if anyone got into um nursing program post here. :redpinkhe introduce yourself!

Hi everyone. Has anyone bought a laptop yet? I have an apple so I guess I have to buy a Dell instead...bummer. Anyway, I have been looking on the tpc's site and the dell's are way more expensive then buying directly from Dell. I 'm just wondering if you guys have bought one and which one you decided on?

I, too, have an Apple and plan to just use Parallels to run the software we need for school. I really like the MacBook but, if for some reason Parallels won't work, I'll just pick up a small cheap PC and sell it on eBay when we're done. :-)

I am in the program!!! Are you on the new student cane website? If so, we have been talking!!

Ice2015.. haven't signed up for the Cane website. Do you find it good? Am also coming for the May class.

Thanks.

have not really used it much to be honest. Just to check my schedule and financial aid status

Has anyone checked the requirements for the laptops... I don't have nearly enough of anything on my current one. I don't know much about computers but the nursing school says processor speed needs to be 2.8Ghz/800 I went on dell's website and the fastest one they make is 2.55Ghz/1000. And that's the part that makes the computer really expensive... if its a difference of a half a second of speed then I'm ok with it but I don't want to buy a laptop that doesn't have enough of what the school says it needs... does anyone know??

I had a hard time with the laptop situation. I ended up buying the Latitude E46OO from the TPC through UM. That's what the tech guy said the recommend. But, it was a bit expensive.

That processor speed is based on an older pentium chip. Don't base it on that. Pretty much anything on the dell website is not going to be outdated so even if it shows a lower processor speed, you should be fine on a new chipset! My fiancee is a provider for Dell. I am a mac user as well, but i'm going to be using a latitude for the tests (luckily I don't have to pay for it :). You should be fine with any of them on the dell website EXCEPT for the atom processor (netbook, any "mini" notebook)... If you have any questions, feel free to email me...

Here is some info on processor speed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_rate Basically the "requirements" are based on a Pentium 4 (introduced in 2000) chip. For example, a "slower" clock speed on a dual core intel chip is still going to be faster than this! The schools requirements are very basic, bare minimum (and outdated!)...Therefore, it's not necessary to go out and get the most expensive dell on the website.

If you have any dell questions or advice, send me a message...

Don't freak out too much about the laptop situation... You only need the laptop for testing purposes where you install "Lockdown" browser that prevents cut/copy/paste functions within blackboard when you take online exams. The HESI/Evolve program is almost identical to that.

Hi,

I am a bit concerned about the laptop situation because I have a Mac Laptop, and it "not advised" to use them wit HESI exams. Are we allowed to use the computer labs for these exams? Did you happen to see any mac users in your class?

Thanks in advance

I PLAN TO GET A MAC!!! I am done with PCs. So you are not alone. Anyway, here is the info on Macs:

If a student still decides to use an Apple laptop despite this disclaimer, they must make sure that it meets the following minimum requirements with sufficient time prior to their first HESI exam:

Pentium D, 2.8GHz/800Mhz FSB or greater (Intel Core Duo if Windows Vista installed)

Mac with an Intel processor

Mac OS X " Leopard " or higher

Boot Camp software properly installed and tested

Have available CD with valid copy of Windows XP SP2 or higher

On the Windows side make sure that Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or higher are installed

Be sure to " Activate " the copy of Windows installed

Student laptops must be fully functional prior to arriving to class for an exam or quiz. It is highly advisable that they meet the model and specifications recommended by the University's Information Technology Department in order to qualify for the most comprehensive technical support available through the " CaneNet Connection " mentioned in the "Technical support for student laptops" section below.

Hello Everyone,

Can you share your experiences to date and how you have managed so far? How has it been? Is it as impossible as they say? I am trying to get things in order to apply next summer.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hello!

To those of you who started in may how is it going for you so far? I applied for the 2nd degree 2 year track but have not finished turning in all of my documents yet. I'd just like to know how the program is going for you and how you like the Miami area
