I would like to connect with anyone else who has applied to UM nursing for fall 2014 as a transfer student. I summated my application on March 1st and I emailed the transfer office on Monday to get an updated, they replied that my application had just been referred to the school of nursing for review and that they would check GPA and pre-req's, then they would hand my app to the committee for a decision. I should have an answer in 3-4 weeks tops.:nailbiting:

Hey guys congrats loveisall and lilymm on getting accepted! Unfortunately , I have to take micro, lab, bio, and lab in the fall so I couldn't apply for this fall 2014 but I plan on applying for fall 2015. I was wondering if I can ask you guys what your gpa was when accepted and if you did any volunteer work or anything special to make you stand out as applicants?? Thanks and congrats again!!!

@ejillest - Hi! I did one semester of Volunteer work as a patient aid on an oncology floor. Every Friday for 5 hours. My GPA was 3.9, I got one B in micro lec. My advise, don't take micro with any other sciences classes if possible. I took micro and micro lab with AP11 and AP11 lad and my micro grade felt the pain. I found the micro lab to be very time consuming and my micro lec professor was very demanding. I was advised not to do it, but I did it anyways and I was sooooo stressed, so so stressed! Stay focused and soon you will join us @ the U!

@lilymm thanks I really appreciate the advise!! ah I HOPE I get in :/ I'm so jealous I don't get to start now! Lol Do you honestly think I have a chance though? I'm nervous because If I finish this semester and next semester with all As I will only have a 3.61 gpa and I don't know if that's enough -.- I can also get letters of recommendations from nurses I work with and doctors I know. I also work in an Oncology Hematology private practice office but i don't know if that will be enough.. What do you think? ?

@ejillest - You have an excellent chance of being accepted. Somewhere on this form someone posted that they got accepted with a 3.68. Your healthcare related experience is a huge plus and that will help you. When the time comes pay closes attention to your entrance essay. I started writing mine 6 months before I submitted my application. I would just take it out once or twice a month and informally jot down new ideas. I must have read the SONHS website 100x, the mission statement, the deans letter, anything I could get my hands on. Then when it came time to formally write it, I had so much information about the school in my brain. @ejilest YOU GOT THIS!

@lilymm Ah I hope so! Thanks so much for the advice!! I definitely have to do well on my essay. I'm going to the information session at UM and going to see if I should do anything else. I don't want to end this process thinking could have done more. Thanks again!! ?
