UF Accelerated BSN 2017

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone,

I have already gotten extremely worried about the UF ABSN application process even before it starts! So here I am creating a thread to share my concerns with you all who may be on the same boat with me.

At the moment, my biggest concern is that my overall undergraduate GPA (which is from a foreign country) is embarrassingly low (under 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and my upper division GPA is probably even lower, due to my lack of seriousness during my undergraduate studies. BUT, when I came to the US for my Master's degree at FIU, I became more serious with school and graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.85. I did read that UF website states only GPA from the most recent 60 credit hours or cumulative GPA from Master's or PhD is calculated for admission criteria, nonetheless, I am still very concerned that overall GPA from all colleges attended will be taken into account, and my undergraduate GPA would have dragged me down.

I am currently working part-time at a home health company as a CNA while taking my pre-requisites, so far I am straight A's and have Microbiology in the Fall and A&PII in the Spring left to be finished. I have no idea how much chance I stand for the UF accelerated program but it is my only hope and dream because all other Universities require a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can share their thoughts with me. Thank you!

I'm also applying for 2017 and I don't think you have much to worry about if you already have a master's with a good GPA. I would think that your statement regarding your reasoning for changing careers will be very important to your particular app just due to the fact that you have already completed upper level study for something else. Hope this eases some of your concerns.

Thank you for your suggestion! Sorry if I made this thread so personal, I was intending to create a forum for 2017 application to discuss anything about this program, but now I can't edit my thread at all. Just curious, are you a UF student or alumni?

I'm glad you created the thread because I anticipate having lots of questions! I'm not a current UF student or alumni. My father-in-law is on the UF Jacksonville medicine faculty so I'm hoping that will help my application ;)

I want to have my application in early so I'm starting to get stressed about getting everything together. How is your application prep going so far?

Having a connection with a UF faculty does sound wonderful! Unfortunately I don't know anyone from there. I'm not getting everything ready yet, I still need both reference letters and will probably not send them out until November. But I want to submit the general application first along with transcripts in September. Did you finish all the pre-requisites? I assume you are applying to the Jacksonville campus or both?

I'm currently trying to get prerequisites together and I just scheduled a CPR/BLS for Healthcare Workers class to add to my resume (you also need it if you are accepted).

I'm applying to Jacksonville since I live here already and have a family.

I'm applying as well and trying to register for the prerequisite courses at UF as a non-degree student has been a nightmare! I can't get into them all, I'll have to finish two of them next semester. Anyone else doing pre reqs this semester?

September 1, is the open date for the NursingCAS correct? Good luck to everyone.

As far as I know and according to the website, it seems correct. Good luck to you too!

Having the same issue with getting into UF classes as a non-degree student and I'm EXTREMELY stressed about it. I've tried calling Kenneth Winn several times to discuss other options and he never answers.

Anyone applying to the Jacksonville campus here?

Best of luck to everyone!

Sorry about you guys' experiences with taking pre reqs at UF. May I ask why you are going through this hassle to take their pre requisites rather than other colleges? Are there any possible benefits for applying their ABSN program? Good luck!
