thinking of startng at the Breckinridge School of nursing @ ITT Tech Lake mary Fl

Hi all,

Thinking of starting at the Breckinridge School of nursing @ ITT Tech Lake Mary, Fl.

Any current students with any info on the program? Insight on classes, instructors, clinicals etc would be helpful.

What's wrong with ITT Tech, for some reason I don't know if I can trust that school

If you don't feel good about the school, then it probably isn't the place for you. I had a good experience there; however, it is importAnt to feel comfortable with your institution.

Breckenridge is very expensive however I chose it because the classes where small and the degree was fast. In addition, There was no guarantee to get into nursing programs at the local community colleges and the waiting lists were ridiculous. I also averaged the return on investment. The income I would be making in my first year, as a nurse, out of the gate would be AT LEAST 40K while other students would still be on their last year in nursing school or be on waiting lists hoping to get in. Nonetheless, All of the school have the same goals, to prepare students to take the NCLEX exam. Doesn't matter how or where you get your ASN.

Another thing to think about is; you may have to take further prerequisites and be accepted to enter a University BSN programs. Otherwise, an ASN is an ASN across the board and there are a lot of BSN online programs you can chose from if that is your goal. Unfortunately, if that is not your goal than this is not for you. You may want to start your prerequisites at a community college that way if you change your mind on a nursing career, you have transferable credits.

I started in Lake Mary, FL. It was a bit disorganized however the Chair of Nursing there really cares about the integrity of the program. She works very hard to make sure things are right. There is one problem though. Not all of the programs are the same.

I transferred to Norfolk, with my husbands job, where I had a very opposite experience. The chair is as helpful as she can be however, the teachers are very arrogant and they act like they are doing you a favor by teaching you (even though you are paying a heck of a lot of money for that education). They also have signed contracts with the deans to be able to make the final decisions, this means no complaining up the food chain, pass of fail is at their discrepancy (I hope they like you). The clinical were great though.

I am actually traveling back to Lake Mary to finish up the last 3 semesters. The teachers there will always make time for you if you request a meeting and the atmosphere is welcoming. In med- surg 2 you do get to work at the hospital in Daytona.

Nursing school is hard work!!! Everything you learn you have to know for the exams. You cannot get away with cheating, you will only be cheating yourself in the end so why waist your time and money? If you have the opportunity to not work it is the best (unless you a well organized and have a lot of support from you family and friends). Good Luck!!!

I currently attend the school in Richardson,Tx I am almost done. I do not recommend this program due to the fact that during the orientation they stated that this 50,000 tuition covered everything than to find out 2 quarters ago that they do not pay for out jurisprudence or enrollment for the board or the nclex exam. Did any of the other schools pay for it?

Neither the LPN school I attended nor ITT paid for mine

I recently found out that the Orlando campus is moving to lake mary during our last semester... What were the clinical sites you guys used when you went there? and what was your last semester like there? What did it consist of?

Can anyone tell me if this school is accredited? I'm think about applying wanted to get some advice. As for current students, how to do you guys like the program?

Are they accredited and can you transfer your credits to any major university

Are they accredited and can you transfer your credits to any major university

They are NOT accredited by ACEN OR CCNE. Getting your credits transferred to a major university will be difficult. I was there for 3 hours doing a school tour and asked lots of questions. I also contacted six schools here in south florida to see if I would be able to get into their RN TO BSN program. Three schools told me no because ITT is not regionally accredited and two schools told me yes because I have a BS degree and did all my pre reqs at a community college. So depending on your situation and future goals this may or may not be the school for you.

Graceg joined the Forum on October 2, 2014 and has made one post associated with this thread. People need to be aware of individuals like Graceg, who in all likelihood is employed this Institution as a paid recruiter and is intent on spreading falsehood to lure unsuspecting individuals to sign up at their For-Profit, overpriced and unaccredited school. There are many of these recruiters on Forums like these and it is next to impossible to discern who are real students/prospective students versus fraudsters. Buyer beware?

For those in ATTENDANCE @ITT TECH/BRECKINRIDGE School of Nursing or whatever they want to call themselves...Here are the FACTS

*When you graduate from ITT....You will take your boards in the state your school is approved in....That state ONLY...If you go to school in OHIO.....You may not take your Boards in PA.....If ITT TECH does not have a program in that state....Congratulations you are a RN.

* As you will see many Hospital employers in regards to BSN requirements...Some are NOW requiring that when you are employed....You will complete that degree within a certain amount of time....SO....Go to any college that offers a RN to BSN program...ONLINE/CLASS....The requirement is the ASN/Diploma program of Nursing be accredited by the NLN...ITT has NOT APPLIED to be a CANIDATE for ACCREDIATION...After first classes have graduated and passed boards...REASON: Because EACH INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM(School Site of Study...ie Youngstown/Akron/Cleveland)will need to be ACCREDITED...NOT Breckinridge School of Nursing Only NATIONWIDE.....It would cost them Millions....And at this point they are to busy sucking $52,000.00 from each student who when they have completed their education...Will need to REPEAT courses already taken...GO to the ITT Student Handbook....In the first 10 pages of the hand book...ITT will tell you that the credits earned at ITT will likely not transfer to any other college.....THEY TELL YOU....WAKE UP.

I stumbled upon this post and was intrigued by the comments. Although this has nothing to do with me, I just wanted to point out that it doesn't matter what state you took your NCLEX-RN in. As long as you passed and have an RN license, you can transfer it to any state you want via reciprocity. RN License Reciprocity

Second, as long as you have an RN license, I don't see why you couldn't get into an RN-BSN program. I looked up Penn State and the admission requirements state that you have to have completed an RN program or have an RN license. It also goes on to say they want all transcripts regardless as to the institutions accreditation status. Penn State Online | How to Apply - Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Thirdly, every institution charges whatever they want. It's up to the students to decide if the cost is fair or not to them. If someone wants to pay $50,000 for their education, so be it. Until I have walked a mile in their shoes, I cannot decided for them what is an appropriate tuition rate. To each their own.

My hospital diploma program costs $25,000. I don't think it's fair to compare my program to a local community college's program that may be $7,000. Regardless as to what anyone paid, an RN is an RN is an RN. We all take the same NCLEX in the end.
