Hello I'm just wondering how much is the starting pay or salary for RN BSN in Florida, and which hospital paid more and good benefits.

I'm planning to relocate in Florida this year. I have 3+ years experience as LVN here in California in different settings and roles. Would you guys know how much I can get as RN BSN there. I got paid 24$/hr. 36/hr for overtime here in my current job.

Thanks in advance. ?

Depending on setting, the rate can vary greatly. Some facilities will give you a slight increase for LVN/LPN experience (matching at a 1:2 for years).

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Florida's less than stellar pay scale, but it's considerably lower. You may be able to break even with some hospitals (even though they are moving towards requiring a BSN eventually, it's only a minimal increase in pay from an associates). LTC will probably offer more. Private duty will be considerably less. The up side is that Florida has no state taxes and the cost of housing is far less than California (but definitely not the cheapest area of the country either).

Florida is a huge state. You gotta clarify an area here if you want hospital recommendations/salary estimates.

THANK YOU! Often important details are left out. As if we know your speciality, years of exp (although this was listed for a change) and the city you are looking to relocate to.

Central Florida Orlando area ranges from 22-24ish. Miami from 24-27. Ft Lauderdale area from 24-28 with one hospital still at 22 that I know of. West Palm Beach area tends to mimic Ft Lauderdale. Other areas I have no clue about but the farther north you go in Florida the more it tends to mimic Orlando more than anywhere further south.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE REPLY!

I have 1 year correctional nursing exp, 2 years out patient ambulatory clinic (hospital employer), 1year + for SNF. I'm looking like orlando or tampa area or maybe miami too. :)

LVN experience might get you a dollar more an hour than a BSN without it, but that's about it. Our pay scale is MUCH lower than Cali. It's about 10 percent lower than the national average, in fact. Cost of living in Miami can also be incredibly high.

Miami pays the most but since your exp is not hospital I have no idea what rate they will put you at 28 base.. Orlando (ORMC night diff use to be 10.75 but I heard it got cut to 4) pays a little better than Tampa. Orlando you can expect 26 base. I would try to work at the VA if in Orlando or Tampa.

In 1996 as a new grad in central Florida ("Space Coast" area) I worked at a rehab center & I made $13.31 an hour...Really bad....Moved away in 1998 and came back in 2002 and made $40/hr in a contract ICU position (non benefit). Had to go staff after a couple years (hospital ended contracts), and my pay went down to $27.50/hr as a part time employee (had been a nurse about 8 years at that point). Not thrilled with the pay cut I got a scheduled per diem (non benefit but guaranteed hours) MICU job at a nearby hospital and made $40/hr. So, if you have some experience and don't need benefits, especially if you can work nights, you can find work that pays decent in Florida. If you want days, full time, benefits, and especially if you are a new grad, the pay probably isn't going to be very good. But, myself, I've always made a pretty good nursing wage when I lived in Florida. The cost of living isn't *that low* but housing is substantially less costly than, say MA or CA, or NY, etc...so you don't have to make 50 bucks an hour to barely make ends meet. I don't think BSN makes a difference with pay, although it might give you an edge getting a position, all other things being equal.

A suggestion- please also explore job satisfaction. Fl is a right to work state- no unions. This means many things, in addition, to being fired for no reason. You go to work and they call you off. your schedule shifts and changes at their whim, leaving you to re - arrange your life. One LTC place I worked took psych pts who were violent and hurt the staff. Systemic disrespect from admins and aids. Not a good working environment here in FL at all. All these things to consider when you work in an area that doesn't have union protection for nurses. Not much different for R.N's as I have R.N friends. I've been an LPN for about 10 years, studying to take the R.N boards. Looking to move ASAP.
