if you are from puerto rico, you do not need a visa screen certificate. therefore you do not need the english exams to be able to work and for your license. however, your place of employment may require a documented english exam. that is their choice..........

i would send for the registration now for licensure. depending on the state, and how long that your school takes to send in documents, you could be waiting. if you happen to be in flroida, they are known for taking their time.

how long is your efresher course for? if you need to have the license before beginning, so not wait until may to apply or there is no guarantee that you will have your att letter in time.

and a big welcome to allnurses.com.

:) first at all, thanks very much suzanne4 for you reply! i can work at veterans affairs hospital with my license from pr and you are right, because

they required the nursing refresher course and to take the english exam(toefl), but by now i am not really interested to work there. my priority now

that i am unemployment is to get the fl license, this is my goal! i want to take the nursing refresher because i know that i need it, because it is been long time without a work as a rn and it will going to help me to pass the nclex...the course will start on august it is 100 hours of theory and 100 hrs of

clinic i don't need to get the fl lic. before the course.

suzanne4 what do you recommend me ? do i have to pass or finish the course first and then make the registration for the nclex? or do you think it is better idea if i go first and take the nclex exam and then the course? i am affraid to not pass it for the long time that i am out from rn.do you know which it is the best rn nclex review book to study? i have the saunders comprehensive 3er edition do you think it gonna be good?

thank very much again! god bless you.... as you can see i am very confused!! please advise me!! you can write me back if you want at [email protected].

suzanne4 i forgot to ask you...what does current BLS means???

suzanne4 i forgot to ask you...what does current BLS means???

Basic life support. I copied this from the www.americanheart.org site:

----------------------------------------

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It's intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals. Course Length: 6-8 hours

-------------------------------------

Bori-BSRN, borinqueña, seven years is a long time to be away from hands-on health care. :coollook: You could go to the community college where you plan to live and speak to an advisor. They will be able to guide you regarding which refresher courses you may need depending upon your own needs.

As for the language, it is important to speak and read English very, very well because of charting. You would not want to make a serious mistake because you misunderstood a word or a phrase.

Students at my community college who do not speak or read enough English spend some time working as patient care techs while they learn English well and then go into nursing school or refresher courses.

I hope some of these ideas help.

You will be required to have the refresher course before you will be permitted ot sit for the NCLEX exam.............I only use Saunders for review, and do not recommend anyhting else..........Some hospitals may require you to have the English exams, but as far as licensre, no............

Good luck.................if you have any more questions, it is easiest to reach me on the International forum, I don't always have time to check everything but try to make time for that......... :)

I'm out of nursing for long time , I'm from asia, any better way to update my nursing profession as refresher course there in US? I have my license always renew when time for renewal, but doing different job not related in nursing. Can you advice me?
