Specializes in ICU.

Hi all. I am looking into relocating to the Pensacola/Destin area and wanted to start networking with some of you before hand to gain insight into best areas to live, work, schools, etc. I am an LPN working on my RN through Excelsior and hope to be done with that by the end of this year. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also if your interested in exchanging emails/phone #'s, I am interested in making some friends to "come home to"! Thanks in advance!

Hi, you and I are on the same page. I taking my CPNE at the end of spring. I'm looking to be in Pensacola by July. Btw, I'm from North New Jersey. I would like to know about nurse job availability and salary as well.

I will be relocating to that area as well around June(military spouse). I wish you the best of luck in your job hunt and the completion of your RN

I also am looking to relocate in the next year. I have an RN and am in PA right now. Would also love info on salary and things. I have put up several posts and not gotten a whole lot of replies so I think there are not too many nurse from the area on this site.

Sorry I can't offer any advice but just wanted to say I'm in the same boat as all of you! I would love to relocate to the Pensacola area, specifically Navarre, within the next few years and would love to network with some other nurses in the area! If any of you have Facebook maybe we could network on there, send me a PM with your email if you want! Oh and check out city-data.com under the visit forums and Pensacola has it's own forum I've posted some questions on there and gotten some replies from locals.

Sacred Heart, West Florida, and Baptist are the three main hospitals in the Pensacola area.

The pay seems pretty low down there. I'm not sure if it's worth moving there.

What information have you found on the salary so far? My understanding is that it is in the $22-$25 range? I make $25 now in PA on day shift hospital I would work nights in FL for the shift differential I never minded nights though.

I'm in Pensacola and have been here for eons. I started out nursing at Baptist Hospital at $19 an hour with $4 per hour shift diff after 3pm and another $1 per hour after 7pm. That was in 2008. The pay around here is much lower than most of the country, but they say the cost of living is much lower. (I wouldn't know. Haven't lived anywhere else since I was 12) ;) I make MUCH less now working as a school nurse but hope to be back at a local hospital within the next year or so. (I'm currently pregnant.)

I do love Pensacola despite the low pay. The military is a huge presence here. We have the world's most gorgeous beaches, awesome dining, and we're within a couple hours drive to New Orleans, Orlando, Jacksonville, etc. Mobile and Foley AL are very closeby with lots more shopping and other things to do. My family is here and we have tons of friends here, our church family is here...just can't imagine living anywhere else! :w00t:

I prefer warm weather, and last month, Jan., we were in the 70's most days! The winters can be cold, however, and are usually very gray and dull. The summers, honestly, are stiflingly hot and humid! We try not to venture out during the hottest part of the day and AC is king in the summertime!

I'm your Pensacola girl if you have any more questions!

Thanks for that reply. Another question would the nursing homes or home health pay better than the hospitals or is that the most profitable option in the area? I also had a question about apartments in the area I had a list of ones I looked at online that seemed to suit our needs do you know anything about them? Or which one seems to be in the best school district, I have a couple of kids to worry about

All those apartments you listed are older apartments and the arbours on sonnyboy lane is directly in the "hood", along with wellington arms. I would say that briarwood on olive rd is the nicest out of that selection you posted. As well as jasmine creek on 9mile rd. It's worth it to spend a little more and live in a nicer side or town and a nicer apt.

Lost the post when the data loss occured so gonna bump it up again. Still looking at moving my son just graduated and my daughter graduates in June 13. Any info anyone has on pay rates, if there are jobs to be had, what are the best places to apply, anything at all ! Please share!
