PBSC 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone, this is a thread for the January 2013 PBSC students. I know October is right around the corner, so I am a little frazzled right now. I am preparing for the HESI and have purchased the HESI study guide. Haven't made it to the mandatory information session as yet though. Also I was wondering if the Pro-Calc is a required test for new students as well. I didn't see anything online on testing dates etc for that. Is it similar to the HESI?

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, MICU.

It is required, its simply a math test. 20 questions you go to the testing center on campus if your not a current nursing student, there is not a set schedule for applicants...i think its 5 dollars per try

take my word for it and dont wait to long, better to gt it over with because you need an 80 to even apply...

Palm Beach State - Pro Calc

Okay thank you, will definitely go on campus soon :)

Hello Everyone,

Im interested in applying to Palm Beach State's RN program as well.... Does any one know if the HESI test is similar to the TEAS V test? I already have a TEAS book- just trying to save a little cash... I plan to attend the information session on July 17th- have you guys already attended, or can offer some good info?- I need all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance :loveya:

I see that it has been a long time since anyone has posted here so hopefully you guys come back to see this. I applied for fall 2012 so if you have any questions let me know. We haven't found out if we got in yet so I'm hoping I won't be applying with you guys ;) but I would be more than happy to help!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! I hope you get in.I have been trying to sign up for the "NUR1024" but I never see it online to sign up for. I don't have any previous healthcare experience, nor any voluntary hours. I called several hospitals in my area, but was unsuccessful in getting an opportunity to volunteer. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do from now before the October deadline. I really want to get started this January. How many points did you have and what were your scores? Thanks again :D:D :D

You cannot get volunteer hours? Here in zephyrhills, as well as in Tampa the hospitals are literally begging for volunteers. Are you presenting your desire to volunteer to help the community or just to help you get into school? Try to volunteer for the good of the community and don't bring up school until you are in. See if that helps. Also try to get a job an a nurse tech/cna. That will help a ton while you are in school.

What area do you live in. I would definitely suggest that you don't mention school when trying to volunteer. Keep looking:) You still have time. Have you tried nursing homes? I would try to snag a spot in NUR1024 for fall *just in case you don't get in* I'm taking it right now. I would suggest that you get online the minute your registration opens to get it. If you are taking classes now try to raise your gpa with them. .01 can make the difference. Have you taken the HESI yet? Are you a county resident? As for me. I scored a 90.26 on the hesi just missing the ten points. I got 100 on procalc. 3.6 gpa. My overall points are 26.6. I'm praying it's enough. If not I will be retaking the HESI and I will have critical thinking by the oct deadline leaving me with hopefully 29.63 points.

Oh and register at privateguru.com it teaches you everything you need to know for pro calc. I went through it twice and then took the test. Got a 100 the first time.

Thanks bunches guys, I am still studying for the HESI, PB county resident. My GPA is 3.0....will definitely try volunteer again. I did mention school when I checked around the first time :(

Hey everyone! I figured since the June 1st applicants are finding out their fate, we should revive this thread and get it ready for our application cycle. How's everyone doing? I am studying for the HESI and getting everything in order.

Hi everyone, my name is Melissa. Just got denied for the June first deadline so hopefully I will have more luck with the Oct 1 deadline.. My points will be higher this go around because I will have the health care exp point.. I am thinking of retaking the hesi to see if I can't get the full 10 instead of the 8 points. But if I don't I will have 26.63 points for the deadline. Can't believe the last cutoff was so high so I am super nervous! Anyone else know what your points are looking like?
