PBSC 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone, this is a thread for the January 2013 PBSC students. I know October is right around the corner, so I am a little frazzled right now. I am preparing for the HESI and have purchased the HESI study guide. Haven't made it to the mandatory information session as yet though. Also I was wondering if the Pro-Calc is a required test for new students as well. I didn't see anything online on testing dates etc for that. Is it similar to the HESI?

Hello everyone! Just wanted to say 'hi' and wish everyone well as we all move forward. I am trying to sort out all the details for the background check, titers/immunizations, etc. A lot of legwork before December/January but it'll all be worth it. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting started on the right foot!

@ mona they sent the acceptance and welcome packet emails on friday. Have u checked ur pbsc email?

Yes!!! Every sec.... I'm thinking something is wrong...oh! Oh! I'm getting scared :( today is Monday night and still nothing

Did you call the nursing office and ask them? Is your registration set for tonight?

Well...Im going to call tomorrow, I never thought I was the only one without acceptance email or weelcome package. And yeah! My registration is open at midnight, in fact Im falling sleep but Im waiting for registration. Even when I dont have idea if take online or campus classes :p

How far along are you all with getting everything in order?

So far, I have signed up and paid for classes, signed up for BLS and taking it on 11/17, got my uniform and pin, bought one textbook, got my titers, and squeezed a stethoscope out of my mom. (Hey, I am not to proud to beg or take FREE stuff!!)

Still need to:

get my flu shot, go to NMS for background screen/drug test (I think I will hold on to my $$ as long as I can for that one!), buy the rest of my textbooks (I am slowly purchasing them- or hoping for a generous offer from family members :), and get some shoes. Did I leave anything off?

Oh jeez, this is hurting my wallet!! Not too much time left guys!! Can't wait to meet and start working with everyone!!

Well you're definitely farther than me. I'll be doing all the doctor related stuff (flu shot, titers, etc) on Tuesday. I signed up for the CPR course for Nov 27th because that's the earliest I can go. I'll be ordering my textbooks and stethoscope from Amazon soon though. Also, I'll be waiting until the stuff that's due on the 7th is out of the way before worrying about the uniform and pin since we don't need those until the first day of class. I'm with you as well, $140 is pretty steep so I'll be doing all the NMS stuff in about a week and a half, especially since I live in Deerfield and want to get everything taken care of down that way at one time.

I need to buy my books, pay for classes, and get my medical form stamped (Already have the shots, just waiting for my medical record to come in so that I can complete it). You should join the facebook page, we have been talking about all of these things. The fb is "PBSC RN Program Spring 2013". Also, I think you forgot to list/complete your online tenet orientation quiz. :)

Ack! Online quiz? Where is this? I joined the FB page, but haven't been too active. I'll be sure to log in!

The quiz is number 7 on the packet checklist. It says it isn't due until January 7th but should be included in the packet if you can complete it, it was very easy... I finished while watching TV.

What's up with the "jobs" section? I keep reading about how hard it is for new grads to land jobs. Sour grapes? Regional?

Specializes in 1st year Critical Care RN, not CCRN cert.

I had 3 job offers right out of school. I just graduated in April 12 and passed my nclex on June 13. I work in a pcu now and will be in the icu starting December 2nd. There will be work when you graduate. Just worry about school right now. None of you have any clue what you are in for. This is going to be the toughest time of your lives, just keep your nose in the books and don't get easily discouraged. All the games and convoluted crap is but a mere drop in the bucket.

I was just coming on to say that I was going to create a fb page... And you already did :)

Going to look for it now
