I wanted to begin a KU thread for those who are:

Thinking about attending,

Planning to attend,

Your 'last' resort,

Your 'plan B' if 'plan A' doesn't work out,

Keeping your options open, while still waiting to hear from the less expensive school(s), and/or wanting to begin your Nursing journey/career right away despite the odds.

So,

When do you plan on taking the TEAS or have you taken it already?

Did you complete your general education requirements or in the process of completing them?

When do you plan to begin your core (Nursing courses) requirements?

Which campus are you seeking to attend?

I am planning to attend

My plan B would be the local community college or an accelerated program

I am thinking about taking the teas in October

I have A&P 2 and Microbiology to take

I want to start January 2014

I am surprised you haven't gotten more responses by now. All the accelerated programs are at least 1.5 hours away from where I live and the community college college is about 20 mins. KU is 5 minutes from me so that's a bonus as well. I would also need Micro before applying to the CC, which means I couldn't start until Fall 2014 and finish 2 years later. I am ready to start now, plus their NCLEX pass rate is pretty good. Only one person failed in January and I heard they had a 100% pass rate in May (PSL campus).

There should be more, but I guess some were timid to be the first to respond. Anyway, I've have been looking at KU since I moved to FL which was back in 2011. I originally came from NY, and the ASN degrees were rare to find with the exception of private schools which were offering the ASN degree that were a little more then the cost of KU. The ironic thing about this was in New Jersey there was an LPN program that I was about to apply too, and the cost was $28K! Yes! The difference between KU and that Florida State college/universities are the cost of attendance. KU has thet same accreditation as some of the other Nursing programs. I recently attended an info session at the Orlando campus and I was comfortable with what was exposed and shared to me. I completed all the prerequisites, but I only have the teas v to take.

Yeah, KU is both regionally and nationally accredited. I know it is expensive, but you can get grant from Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and also a 25% discount if you work for one of the hospitals at which they do their clinical. I am planning on attending their open house Aug. 03. I have also checked out persons on this website who attended KU and some were pleased with the program and they had some pretty good things to say. Honestly, I am looking forward to attending their program. In addition to the 2 pre-req's, I will have the teas and an interview to do.

I'm happy to be part of this forum!

I'm looking into KU and would be attending the Jacksonville campus. I met with an advisor and i was pleased what was said and i also did a lot of research about KU. At this point, i believe it is the option that i really want to take. Although the school is expensive, i like the pace because it works perfectly for me.

I'm done with all my prerequisite and i should begin the program in Jan 14 . I have not taken the teas yet .

I'm attending the Orlando campus for the fall class. I just mailed in my seat confirmation today and am so excited to start.

Congrats to you! Are you beginning you general ed course or the core nursing courses? I attended that information session at the Orlando campus and I met with nursing counselor who give a thorough presentation of the program. All I can say is that I was pleased. Did you take the teas v? If so, how was it?

That's great! As for the expense, you should check you local workforce center because they can help you with some money, which would be very helpful.

I am starting the core. :) I took the TEAS a few months ago. It wasn't too bad. I passed all of the sections on the first try except English. I was really shocked because English is not a problem for me. Apparently I forgot how to spell! I did fine on the second try.

That's good! Let us know how it goes because that is the campus I am seeking to attend. Since your starting your core, is there an orientation you need to attend in order to know what to expect, such as what books you will need?
