ok this is my plan( vent)

Ok so my first option was to attend keiser and pray they take my 15 credits and do the night program with a full time job however after having a few conversations that almost seemed discouraging about keiser ( i will get into that later) i decided i would attend Lake Sumter community college in Leesburg Fl. Since it where i live it saves gas and the classes are much cheaper. This is where i will do my pre reqs hopefully online, if the waitlist is not long ie MONTHS/ YEARS to get into then i will continue my classes there or in Clermont HOWEVER if i cant get into any of those courses by the time i finish my pre reqs then i will go to keiser as a last resort so the tuition will actually be less. The reason why im doing it like this is because i want to work in a BIG HOSPITAL Maybe trauma 2 havent decided i just know i want to be an OR NURSE i was told that one person employer would immediately put a potential employee at the bottom of the list if they were from keiser :nailbiting: seriously!?!! why do that my education should be equal to any other education if i have the potential you should go by that instead of what school i went to but then i thought maybe that type of employer is not meant for me anyway, but then more questions popped up where other employers are the same! :nailbiting: so keiser will be my definite last resort. Hopefully someone will see my potential and hire my i know you need a BSN with your ACLS, BLS and sometimes PALS but right now i can only do the ASN and work then transfer to BSN while working. Whew! That was a vent now i have a question would it be possible to start working on my ACLS, BLS, PALS while in school still would an employer notice that or would i have to wait until after nursing school to get all the certifications i tried looking up courses but couldnt find any prices and how long the courses are. Thanks for any info and letting me vent

You should be able to take all of those classes while in nursing school. Call to register the classes and you can ask to be sure.

Just be aware that ACLS/PALS and the like are NOT certifications- they are one or two day classes that you attend and if you pass you get a card. Sometimes this card is required for a job, sometimes not. IF you are not even accepted to a school yet, it would be foolish and a waste of $$ to do them now- they expire every two years and you'd have to repeat before you even graduated.

A 'certification' - in nursing - is a credential that you earn AFTER having worked several years in a specialty area and then passing a rigorous examination. For example, I am 'certified' in pediatric nursing by the ANCC as well as certified as a critical-care pediatric nurse by the AACN.

I understand the BLS, PALS, AND ACLS is not actually a certification but a requirement of the majority of hospitals i looked up. And although it may be stupid or ridiculous i dont think it would be a waste of money to start early if i remember correctly renewal is less time then the first time class. I may not be in school right now however i know i will be i dont plan on stopping until i get my doctorate and someone will admit me .

Just FYI, before you gets ACLS and PALS, the requirement is to get BLS for Healthcare Providers; find out if you will be able to get the Healthcare providers first; that would be your best net for now.

Find out the requirements for your local CCs in terms of what required classes you need to take that can be taken prior to completing courses online; you also may have to take a placement test prior to signing up for classes, so find out about that as well, unless you already have attended school before (not sure because I didn't see if you had previous experience in your OP).

Is Kaiser a commercial profit school?

If so, that may be a HUGE reason why employers will not pick that school, as well as other issues-including credits not able to transfer, which affects obtaining credits for bachelors and graduate work-so if someone has told you not to go to this particular program, it's best to steer clear of those programs :yes: ; look for programs based on national accreditation (ACEN is one), BON approval and NCLEX pass rate.

Hi ladyfree28 yes i have gone to school before however i didnt not have to take the HESI until now i go to my CC Monday to find out when to take the test and if my credits will actually transfer i was also told in order to do clinicals i had to have BLS and they provide that so i guess its a start! Thank you. I also know i will miss the deadline for nursing so i will be put on a waiting list which i am dreading because i like to go go go lol. However right now i dont know how i will work for my BSN and up but thats for the future;)

@jasmine.rivers451: I had a hard time reading your posts due to the minimal use of periods, etc. From a general standpoint, why do you and others feel it is automatic that you will get accepted into Keiser University Nursing Program? Is it that they accept everyone, irrespective of their GPA or academic credentials? Is Keiser University considered a "safe school", with a lower barrier to entry? Doesn't this by itself suggests an inferior product? Why would an employer recruit students that graduate from such a program, if they accept everyone that applies?

EDIT: Have you done some of the Nursing prerequisites and if so, where (another Community College; another for-profit institution)? You mention do some (all?) your prerequisites at a CC Online; how would you handle the Labs associated with some of these courses?

I apologize for the lack of periods. It just just me venting and not paying attention to grammer and punctuation. I honestly dont pay attention to what everyone else do when it comes to keiser they are not my responsibility. The reason I choose keiser is because i had heard rave reviews and was told by multiple it was a good school especially for someone like me. I didnt expect to be admitted it was merely optimism.

I have a previous associate of science degree in massage therapy. The school is a non for profit college. I did nothing online.So labs ect i have no problem with handling since i love school if i have trouble in class I know that would be something i focus on more.

Is keiser considered safe? I dont think so but i honestly have no clue if you can "TRY" to reread what i said i canceled everything with keiser and decided to go to a community college. If the waiting list is to long at that campus i would go to another branch and so on and so forth until keiser was my very last option.

IMHO i just feel like if i paid for the education, passed the exam, and have a license to be an RN an employer should consider them to have potential instead of immediately putting them at the bottom of the list like they dont know their knowledge regardless of where they got the education.

Ah, but most employers DO put colleges that are "commercial" like ITT tech and any colleges affiliated with "shareholders", for example , and other college that are high prices and know to prey on particular groups of people because of that very reason; in addition, they have experienced hiring and or having students for clinical that determines whether or not if they do well or are even hired, and will make decisions based on whether they have a bad experience; unfortunate, yes, but such is life.

Seek out what hospitals you eventually want to work in, ask what local schools they hire from, then compile your list and go from there.
