Nursing School In Tampa

U.S.A. Florida

ANYONE HAVE ANY RECOMMINDATIONS FOR WHICH SCHOOLS ARE GOOD TO GET YOUR RN DEGREE IN TAMPA FLORIDA. JUST THE TWO YEAR ONE NOT THE FOUR YEAR ONE. I AM AT HCC BUT I HEARD ITS REALLY HARD TO GET INTO THE NURSING PROGRAM THERE. DO I HAVE A BETTER CHANCE IF I GO TO AN ALL NURSING SCHOOL?

It is very hard to get into nursing schools in Tampa. Maybe you could try the University of Tampa and this is a private school. HCC would be your best choice but they are very insensitive at times.

Good luck!

I am a graduate of HCC, I graduated in 2001. I did not find it hard to get in, in fact since the shortage they have been taking in more students than before. I think most nursing schools could be considered "insensitive" because they are so strict on attendance and the like. Still, I did it with 2 children under 4, so if I can do it anyone can!

Let me know if you have any questions I can help you with, or you can pm me here on the board.

I applied to HCC for this semester and did not get in, even w/ a 3.28 GPA in the 4 required classes. I reapplied for the spring 2004, and got in. I turned them down, however, because I got accepted to the U of Tampa, and I started classes on the 25th of August. :) I got my 1st BS from UT, and I really love that school. Like every University, it has its problems, but I like the small classes and I got a really good education for my 1st BS. It is EXPENSIVE, so if anyone knows any place I could get $, please let me know! I almost wanted to accept HCC's offer, but I know that UT is better in every other aspect, except the $. They accepted 40 people into the program this year (it's new....the other degrees they already had are RN to BSN and MSN) and my teacher told us that number will not go up significantly so they can keep the class sizes small. Our clinicals are going to be 1:4 and sometimes less!

I have to pipe in with my $.02 worth about online education. I have gotten an ADN, BA and MA in the traditional way. Driving to the university, struggling to park, hiking across campus in a monsoon among other unpleasantries. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate every bit of education that I have received. But now I am working on my fourth degree and it has been a completely different experience. I am enrolled in the bridge to MSN program through the University of Phoenix. I know that they have a BSN program for people that have an ADN and are practicing RN's. It is a great program and I have been more than happy with it. I can go to class in my family room in my pj's if I want or after I come home from work at midnight! What could be better! The UOP also has Tampa campuses. Go here to read more about it....

LOL kmrmom42 sounds like my type of school.. Do U know of an LPN/RN bridge that way?

I don't know what the exact requirements are for the BSN program. You could certainly contact the University of Phoenix to find out. I do think you have to be an RN though but I am certainly not the final authority on that! I also wanted to say that I left out an important piece of info for someone considering the RN to MSN bridge. You have to have a Bachelor's degree in something to be considered for that program. My Bachelor's is in psychology so I was able to take the "fast track" to MSN.

I am also looking for an RN program in the Tampa area...the community schools seem to be extremely hard to get into...does anyone have any experience with Ultimate Medical Academy or Concorde?

Thanks.
