New LPN looking for a job in the WPB, FL area

Hi everyone:

I graduated from the LPN program on Dec 2012. I passed the boards on Feb. 5th and received my license 2 wks later, I was so proud and I also felt like for the first time I had accomplished something:nurse:. Ever since then, I have been looking for a job at every LTC, assisted living, nursing home, online. No one wants to hire me because I'm a new nurse. since I received my license, I've been called to just 3 interviews and they all told me that I needed at least 1 or 2 years of experience. Finally I applied at an agency, they called me back for an interview, they hired me but they're asking me to work as a CNA. At this point, I've been so frustrated because I feel like, I busted my behind to go to school, took my boards and got my license for absolutely nothing. For the first time in my life I feel like I want to give up. I'm still looking, still unemployed and my bills are getting bigger and bigger. Please somebody out there help me, if you're in the WPB, FL area and know of any LTC, ALF, NH hiring, please let me know.

Hi! I don't have a lot of advice to offer, but I can tell you that you DID accomplish something. I'm very proud of you for what it's worth. Can you maybe take the CNA job until you find something to help with the bills and whatnot? It's only going to be temporary. Something will come along for you. Now give us a big smile, and pat yourself on the back :)

Wow...thank you NCmcMan for the encouragement, I feel so much better:). I've been working as a CNA way before I started the LPN program and I'm still working for the same agency as a CNA because they don't have any LPN positions available.

Be very careful if you are going to work as a CNA. You are now a licensed nurse & you will be obligated to stand by your license. Open your search outside of your area code & possibly out of state. I live in Ca & here the nursing job market is very competitive. Don't give up & keep trying.

You are the pillar of inspiration NCmcMan. You inspire me! I too am seeking employ as a new LPN. I am flexible to a position regardless of the location in florida. Interestingly, virtually most places insist that you come back after 1-2years experience. This is very daunting but I shall persevere. I would love to entertain working in a doctors office, imaging center,hospital,home health, but if no success with any of these LTC is fine. Anyone know who is hiring? Also, What tips do you, or anyone have for new nurses going for interviews? Regarding length of time for training in new position? Although, this is really a question for each organisation on its duration, I once heard a nurse that graduated before me say that even though there is a time frame for you to train for the new position on the job (3d or even a 1w) you could ask for less time or extension if neccessary. Is this true?Especially for pay without experience within any of the aforementioned situations? So as not to grossly undermarket oneself even with out experience. Help! I would love PRN or part time so I can return for my RN very soon. I will be glad for any feed back related to this. :up::unsure:
