You are reading page 3 of Moving from NY to FL, what part/city of Fl would you recommend?

I have 9 yrs plus CEN I make around $42/hr.I understand that I'm going to take a pay cut. I can stomach going to maybe $35/hr but not less than $30, no way.The Florida hospital chain mentioned sees to center around Orlando, I hope the space coast hospitals aren't paying the same pitiful rates!

Then don't move here, you won't find it. Some DON's barely make that.

As far as living goes, I LOVED the Ft Walton Beach/Destin Area. Hospitals are slim pickins there though. I currently live in Jacksonville and pay I am seeing is $22 - $27 DOE + diffs. The schools here suck. It was even worse for my ADHD boys. My daughter's did fine at Ed White, but I made sure they were in the NJROTC program where the kids stay focused on their education. If your child is on the top of the academic class, he/she can attend either Stanton College Prep or Paxon. THOSE schools score in the top 10 public HS's in the NATION! When I lived in Queens, my parents sent all 5 of us to Catholic schools, so I graduated from St Francis Prep.

So take this from a prior New Yorker.....Yes, the pay is much lower. That being said, you don't pay state income tax nor do you pay city income tax. (Most folks don't realize that NYC has it's own income tax!) The sales tax rate here is a bit less than what you pay in NY. Rent is FAR cheaper here than what you pay there. Electricity is less as well. Gasoline is much cheaper in the south.

Honestly, it is NOT what you get paid. It IS what you have LEFT AFTER paying for basic living. If you have good credit, buying a place is a steal right now! ;D My house is more than what my parents and my sister own and 1/2 the cost! (the fam lives in Levittown). When your child grows up and wants to go to college, you will see that FL has the lowest in-state tuition rates in the country! The pace here is much slower and you get to take time to smell the roses!
