Miami Dade Salaries or SE Florida

U.S.A. Florida

Published

From what I read hear there are no jobs for new grads in the Miami area. I graduate in May 2010. I have hope that this economy will turn around and jobs will become available sometime. So, Hypothetically, If there was a Hospital job open for a new grad in Miami or SE Florida, What would the salary be? The other posts regarding salaries here seem a little out of date. Any information would be appreciated!!

Best Regards!

I've seen RN new grad pay at about $21/hr, but I'm not a new grad, and this is hearsay...

Specializes in ED.

^around that range. Yes its hard to get a job in Miami. my sister is graduating in May 2010 with her BSN and im telling her to get a tech job so would be already in the system

Gosh I was thinking of moving down there but 21 an hour is horrible pay and it seems like that is all over Florida. I am in Nevada and got a job starting at 35 an hour as a new grad. 21.00 is scary. Does it get any higher at other hospitals? . I'll have to really think about the move now.

Salary is horrible here. There are too many nurses, not enough positions and to add to that the economy is bad, I see postings on craigslist where experienced nurses are looking for work. Why would a company hire a new grad over an experienced provider that will work for new grad wages? This is also serving to depress the wages of all nurses in FL. We have many many schools here, at least 10 I can think of, pumping new grads out twice per year but there are simply not enough jobs.

For the first time more people are moving out of FL than in which means less sick people to take care of. The area is really getting depressed.

I'm not sure about RN salary but ARNP new grad starting salary here is only $38-40/hr which as you can see is a good RN starting salary in other states. My friend in TX makes $7 more per hour than my friend in Miami working at the same retail clinic, yet the cost of living here is 18% more than in TX. That $7 an hour paid in TX equates to over $13k per year more, with lower cost of living and much cheaper housing I don't know why people stay in FL that have a choice to leave.

I have been offered good jobs in IL, NM, PA and other states as a new grad, but can't move. Those jobs starting salary was $90k+ per year. I've been offered jobs here in the Orlando and Tampa areas with starting salary as low as $65k!! There are no new grad jobs in Broward/Miami/Palm beach areas.

If I were single and rented, I'd be so out of this state...

I should add I've been looking for work for 2.5 months and have not had one in person interview. I went to one of the top schools here, excellent grades, 15 yrs experience as an LPN/RN but none of that matters in FL.
