MDC New Requirements for 2012

U.S.A. Florida

this is what the director stated in an email: the deadline date to apply for the fall 2012 program is may 1, 2012. the deadline date to apply for the spring 2012 program is september 1, 2011. please remember that all admission requirements, including teas and hsc0003 (a new course required for all students applying for fall 2012) must be completed prior to the deadline date to apply.

it's always something new they add!

Hi! I'd like to know where did you get that info. I checked the Nursing page at MDC and there's nothing about that. I really cannot believe they are adding a new class. That would mean I would have to lose a semester until I can apply again! Wow! if this is true it's horrible news. :(

What a relief!!! I think you are talking about the LPN program. I was worried already. (Im going for the RN) However, I have to tell you that in this case it's not that bad. Getting into the LPN program was very simple, in fact, it was TOO simple, so I guess that adding just a class shouldn't be too much to deal with. Anyway, I'm sorry for you because this will mean a little bit of extra work for you, but if you think about it, even with the things they've added up, getting into the program it's not complicated at all.

Good luck!!! :)

Hi yisy4u,

This is for Nursing and other health science programs. Website: Medical Center Campus-Home Page. Look at the bottom where it says effective 2012-1. It's not on the actual nursing page, I know. The adviser director is Paola Documet. Its not a credit course, its like 90 hours I think and you can take it online or in person at the medical campus.

Effective 2012-1 (August 1, 2012), successful completion of HSC 0003 – Introduction to Health Care will be required for all students applying to a program in the School of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing (EMS programs are exempt from this requirement).

Those students who have successfully completed

HSC 0003 prior to this deadline date will be given additional consideration during the selection process for admission into the various programs on the Medical Center Campus. student_info.jpg

Its like $258 and some change. I think. You can check on search for courses. They are offering it in Feb. 2011 at the Medical Campus. I couldn't find anything online this semester.

Just another added set back for me when I was almost done!

Is any one applying in 2012 for the nursing program?

Hi Sheeco!

I was going to register for that class this summer, but I just changed my mind. I know I won't like that class at all. Luckily, I will finish the Pre requisites this summer :D and even though they will give additional consideration for it I rather take the chance.

So! When are you applying to the program? I'll be applying for next spring. I'm currently taking A&P 2 and Chem1033, and in the summer I'll be taking Mac 1105 and Microbiology + the lab. :nurse:

I am taking Mac1105 on Tuesdays and Thursday at 11:40am. What about you? I took a&p2 already. Micro next semester for me because I didn't like any of the professors. So your going to take the TEAS V while in class?

If you speak with an adviser they said u have to take HS00C if u plan to start in 2012. I posted it below and its on the website as well.

Sheeco :D

HSC003 is mandatory for the students applying to the fall/2012. I'll be applying to the January/2012, so I'm not required to take that class and neither are you if you finish with your Pre requisites this summer. I registered already for Micro, I'll be taking it at the North campus with a professor a like. I'll be taking MAC1105 in the summer B along with Micro Lab (I know the lab it's not required, but I want to take all the classes I can) And in the summer A I'll be taking Micro, Critical thinking (online) :)

About the teas I think I'll take it during the summer or during the fall. I'm not in a hurry since the deadline application is for Sept 1st, so I think that I can take the Teas in the middle of the fall and still turn in the application on time. If you want you can private message me and I'll tell you what prof I got for my micro lecture class. Maybe we got the same prof! :)

I'm applying to both the Generic and Accelerated nursing RN program by the September 1st deadline to then begin the program (if accepted) in January.

At both kendall and homestead campus, I'm currently taking A&P1 w/lab and chem for health sciences w/ lab. I will do the rest of the pre-reqs this summer and take the TEAS exam. I plan to do very well in everything as I hear MDC nursing is very competitive.

As a plan B, I will probably continue taking other pre-reqs for other nursing programs elsewhere (UM, FIU, etc.) in the case I do not get in MDC's program.

I don't have twitter or any other social networking site because I don't like them. I will be finished in the Fall because I have been unemployed for 4 years now so I can only afford 2 classes at a time plus the cost of books. I am going to study for the TEASV in January and take it in Feb. so that if I don't pass a section or 2 I can redo in within the month and still give me time to apply before May 1st. That is what my adviser said was the best route for my situation. I take all my class at the North campus and online. This is my 4th semester so far. I was going to take MAC 1105 at 11:40am but switched it to 8am, tue. and thursday's. 6 weeks is short but hope I pass it since Math is not my strong suit and I need to score high.

Have you been inducted into the PTK honor society? My ceremony is April 4th but I haven't heard anything from my classmates. When I first started I didn't know how the school worked so had I known this would have been my last semester.

I am also applying for accelerated and generic and was thinking that I should also apply to the part time just to be on the safe side. What do u think?

I am having a hard time with CHM1033 w/ lab, I am passing but barely. I just need a 90% so I am pushing for that. My professor is female and I take both classes on Saturdays. I pray that I pass with A's because I have a 4.0 and it would truly screw my GPA up. I worked so hard for it.

The adviser said that the math class fits under the general requirements so the gpa would be factored in differently from my natural sciences courses. I am just tired of it and just want to start. Did u go to the open house they had?

I am so glad you answered. Thank you.

Hey Sheeco,

1) In my opinion I think it's a good idea that you apply to generic, accelerated and even part-time. Whatever you can do to better your chances of getting into nursing school at MDC is worthwhile.

2) As of this moment I don't know much about the PTK honor society but it definitely looks like something that I'll be joining after the summer semester or in nursing school.

3) Do what you can do to end up with an A in chemistry. Nothing below a 90%. Even if you have to meet the professor after hours and ask for extra credit. GPA is worth 40% of selection criteria in MDC...

Well the professor told me that I could redo my midterm to get a higher score but everything is piling up and I don't see how I will have time to redo it. I have extra credit points but its still not enough. Lab I might get an A but lecture doesn't look like it. So worried about it!

I am also planning on applying to the part-time program to because I just want to get in.

Did you go to the open house?

Sheeco:rolleyes:
