U.S.A. Florida

hi and congrats to all of us! i made this thread so we could all exhange info for out ft cohort. that way we won't get mixed up with the other p/timers and ao track! congrats to them too!

for those who are just tuning in:

  • our orientation is july 18th, the ati assessment is july 19. mark your calendars!
  • we do need to get titers for 2 tb's, mmr, varicella and hep b is highly suggested! i think hep a too!
  • the program is 4 semesters. we graduate in december 2012!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  • we have to turn in all our paper work for orientation, which includes our drug screen, health record, background check(i think they receive this from the actually company though)
  • make your ati account!!! atitesting.com

what i have left to do:

  • get my drug screen and 2nd tb! should go tomorrow.
  • uhhh all my titers actually
  • my unform--although i've already gotten my skirt for clinicals (don't wear pants), i don't have the top or lab coat!!!
  • get my books-- i've gotten supplementals like an nclex book and stuff but not the actual texts.

what i have done to get ready:

  • i am going on a diet! healthy meals all day! i don't want to gain 10+ lbs--don't like the idea of being an unhealthy nurse lol
  • going over some, but not all a&p--mostly bones, muscles, heart, endocrine, and stuff like that.
  • cleaning out my room to make more space.
  • i got an extra desk--its big and spacious for those late night study sessions. i have another one but its small. mostly for the computer. but it has lots of shelves for my "enjoyment books".
  • i am cleaning my shelves(i have lots) and organizing the books by subject (anatomy, physio, patho, bio, chemistry, dictionaries, etc) and as time goes by, i'll put the nursing books as follows: (fundamentals, health assessments, pharmacology, patho, medsurge, specialties, references/dictionaries, review books)
  • i'm cleaning my filing cabinet out but i am making copies of all my important documents, including my health record incase mdc loses it, lol. so i'll have files for my health docs, extra copies of my other valuable docs(house docs, car docs, insurance etc), and drug screen results. i'm also going to keep file of my ap notes. this is all for simplicity!!!
  • i'm going to buy those under-bed storage bins to store my extras-- extra back packs, extra office supplies, and my sewing supplies(yes i love crafts)
  • make sure my dental appointments and my dog's shots are up to date!!!
  • i printed a ton of "grocery list/menu planner" sheets. i am going to put it on a magnetic clipboard and put it on my white board. every week or month i am going to pick out a day just for meal planning and grocery shopping. i am going to work it out so that the first semester i only have to go shopping twice a month. most of my meals, if they turn out alright lol, will be freezer meals.
  • i think i need to buy a mini freezer lol
  • i'm going to do all my fun stuff before school starts. i want to go to the zoo and see some museums and other geeky stuff with my mum. might not be able to for a while :crying2:

what other misc stuff are you doing to organize your life? i *love* organizing :redbeathe any tips would be great!!!!!can't wait :D :yeah::nurse::redbeathe:eek::p:rolleyes::D:clown:

For those who are following the syllabus that one of the teachers mailed out - the chapter we should be reading is 34 in the Fundamentals book?

PixieMom,

Hey, MiaNur blogged on the part-timer's blog to read Ch34 for Fundamentals. But I was wondering if it is for Professor Ponce's class?! I think she teaches both full-time & part-time. Yet the part-time Fundamentals class stretches into Springtime! So, hmmm...

No emails from any professors to me. But then again, nobody notified me of the change of dates for orientation, either! So, I'm reliant on my fellow classmates for vital information, apparently. And I located one of my prof's email addy & emailed them (being proactive). The other prof's e-addy's I'm still hunting for.

This thread is awesome. Im sequence two at med campus...Im nervous about what to wear to class:) -Lauren

I'm sequence 2 as well! Maybe we can compare schedules!

guys here is the online tutoring website that was mentioned to us in orientation

http://www.smarthinking.com/services-and-subjects/subjects/nursing-and-allied-health/

On Eagles Wings,

I've used "smart thinking" for online tutoring for my Chemistry class.

It was a more complex than in person tutors - mostly because

it was harder to type (as opposed to write) certain symbols.

But it was great to be able to have tutor services at odd hours. Early AM, etc.

@pixiemom. I have mondays and Fridays off and when clinicals start I have it at the miami jewish home on fridays. Tuesday we all have the same class and then I have class from 2-430 on wed and 430-6.. then another one thursday 8-1045am. Thats a rough breakdown:) and you?

What books are u bringing to first day of class fundamentals? All of them? Also the only syllabus I got was for Tuesday's class to read chapter 34. Anyone else reading anything else to prepare? Just checkin:)

Goldonhorn,

Question... did your "Fundamentals" class syllabus show that the Med-Surg textbooks were a requirement? Do you have Prof. Ponce, by chance for "Fundamentals"?

I'm part-timer, no emails from any professors, thus no syllabi (is that proper English?), & no idea! Seems like the Med-Surg textbooks would be for Med-Surg class in January for full-timers. Yet these books were shown on the booklist to buy NOW.

Any feedback appreciated.

I was wondering the exact same thing. The email I received from Professor Thomas says:

"Please bring any books you have purchased and I will go over when and how you will need them during the semester. Please bring Potter and Perry as I will begin lecturing on the first day of class."

The way the second sentence specifically mentions Potter & Perry almost makes it seem like that might be the only one really needed. I hate to bring in a large suitcase with that Medical-Surgical book and then be laughed at. :lol2:

P.S. Be sure to check your schedule again. I noticed my classroom numbers changed in the last few days.

I have Fundamentals from 8-10:30 Tues., Skills lab from 2 - 4:30 or so on Tues, then Wed. I have Math and Pharm from 9-10:30 or so, and Health Asses. in the afternoon (forgot the time). I am going to Floridian/Jackson N???? on Fridays. (I have no idea where that is or what it is...a nursing home?).

Potter and Perry seems to be the only book we need to take to Fundies class on Tues. I haven't heard about any other readings for Tues. and have gotten no syllabi.

Pixie who do you have for fundies? i have that class at the same time as you.

I'm wondering if the classrooms have enough room for all these suitcases or large bookbags of books?!
