MDC Fall 2011 - PART TIME Program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Everyone,

So far it appears like I've only been accepted into the part-time RN program at MDC.edu (Miami Dade College) for August 2011 (Fall 2011).

There is another LONG thread for MDC Fall 2011, but it isn't specific to the part-time program. I'm not sure if other students who have been accepted to the part-time program will start collaborating, but if they do, this might be one good place to start!

Sincerely,

Fem

P.S. Well, it has taken me 3 (three) tries to create a new discussion thread. I'm hoping this is in the proper place & location. I'm hoping I get some students post here. Collaboration is a wonderful thing.

Mocadell,

Just still crossing my fingers for you for the part-time program. Any word?

I saw a couple students who got accepted to the accelerated program today on the "MDC Fall 2011" thread.

I'm praying for you. I know how hard you have worked to try to get accepted.

Hi Fem! Thank you for your prayers :) No I haven't heard anything yet..and now I becoming doubtful that I will :( I spoke with a counselor at the campus yesterday and she told me that this year, back in February, people were able to apply for a new part time class that should have started in about May or June, however, due to budget cuts or something, that class was not able to start in May or June so those people accepted were kept for the Fall semester. Now, I knew about this new part time class back in February and asked if I could apply back then but because I wasn't done with my prereq's (I still needed MAC1105 which I finished in May) I was told I couldn't apply. According to this counselor, I was 4 applicants away from being accepted. FOUR!! I feel that this is so unfair on so many levels! If those people accepted back in February would've started when they were suppose to then I feel that I and other people would've gotten in now...also they are starting in the fall anyway so I could've applied being that not too many people new about this new part time back then and probably been accepted. Anyway..this is where I'm at now....but thank you for having me in your prayers and for thinking about me!

Wow I for sure never knew about that class. That is unfair and unbelievable! Ugh that being said who knows how many seats were really available to new applicants. But if things don't go your way, keep your head up and try again and in the meantime try to get done some credits that can count towards your bachelors or anything to keep your mind on that study mode :)

Good luck!

Mocadell,

You said, "the new part time class that should have started in about May or June, however, due to budget cuts or something, that class was not able to start in May or June so those people accepted were kept for the Fall semester."

What a classmate (from Spring A&PII) said to me now makes sense. This classmate said MDC was discontinuing the part-time RN program. But then at application time, it had a box available for part-time, so I checked it, too... and chalked up the classmates discussion as rumor. So THANKS for telling me about what transpired. So MDC was thinking of starting the part-time program 2x a year as opposed to just 1x a year... but because of budget cuts, it didn't happen. Got it! (I think). So, those that were accepted for the May/June start dates are going to actually start in August... but that means the normal pool of applicants were shuffled lower on the list (didn't get in this round).

I'm so sorry:crying2: to tend to agree with you, but if you haven't received an acceptance email by now, your chances are growing slimmer as we speak to be accepted for August 2011 part-time. It scares me that you have really good statisitics (GPA / TEAS) and was not one of the first to be accepted. This means I BARELY made it in.

I was truly thinking we might be studying together this fall.

As it stands, so few students are posting on this thread... only me and one other gal have posted that we have been accepted. That being said, I realize not every student posts here... but still... I thought we might have at least 5 students posting here that there are starting MDC Fall 2011 Part-Time.

I'm hoping you might still keep us informed of your progress, plans & strategy. Not sure I mentioned it to you, but one idea I had was this, if I didn't get accepted, go for LPN school (technical schools or MDC). And applying for RN + LN-RN (part-time). That idea opens the door of opportunity wider by applying to 2 programs (RN and LPN-RN). Did you know MDC has a part-time LPN-RN program?

Sincerely,

fem

Mocadell,

One more thing to consider....

I've heard some RN's have a tough time obtaining employment after graduating. If someone does the LPN then LPN-RN route, wouldn't they qualify for both job positions? Might be lower pay as LPN but some pay is better than nothing?!

I dunno, maybe if you are an RN, you can apply to LPN jobs?! (And not get hired because you are "overqualified". LOL. ) Not that anyone would WANT to be an RN and work as LPN with LPN pay, But if a person NEEDED the immediate income....

I think Mercy Hospital's LPN program is 4p-10p (4 or 5 nights a week).

To those who have been accepted to Miami-Dade College School of Nursing for the Fall term, congratulations. You now have a new school/nursing buddy-Juan. I received my acceptance letter on June the 29th around 5:40 PM. Let's all help each other out; study groups, share work and everything else in between that will help us all succeed in this extraordinary career.

Celebrate such a great accomplishment for we have worked very hard for it. The rest should be easy. Meet me at the library!

That's great to know you've been accepted as well. My name is Juan and I hope we can be great nursing buddies during the program and of course, after. Keep in touch and we'll meet on July the 21st.

Have you gotten accepted yet? I'd like to know so we can be classmates during the program. My name is Juan and let me tell you that my GPA was like 3.26 and I scored a 63% on the TEAS V and got accepted for the part-time program. In fact, I received my acceptance letter in my E-mail on June the 29th. If you got accepted, I hope to see you on orientation day, July the 21st. Best wishes to you!

Juan,

Are you in the part time LPN-RN program? or part time generic RN program?

The reason I ask is that your TEAS score and GPA is much lower than anybody I know that has been accepted to the generic RN program.

Further, I notice you have 4 years experience (shown on your profile)

I was accepted to the part-time generic RN program. I am not an LPN.

Fem

Hello Juan! Congrats on your acceptance! Quick question...did u get accepted to the part time generic or LPN??
